ISLAMABAD: The Transparency International, the worldwide anti-corruption and human rights watchdog institution, has demanded that Pakistan Army should supervise the coming general elections in which electronic voting systems like those used in India and Brazil should be used.

In a letter to new Chief Election Commissioner Fakhurddin G Ebrahim, the TIP said on Monday the EC should install 140,000 web cameras in all 68,000 polling booths throughout the 272 constituencies which would cost about one billion rupees which could be easily raised through donations or a charge on candidates.

The TIP’s letter to the CEC says electoral rolls with photographs of voters should be given to all polling agents like in Bangladesh, and electronic voting like India and Brazil should be introduced.

But the most important of the six recommendations made by the TIP says the CEC should call upon the Pakistan Army as needed to be present both inside and outside the polling stations. It says the assets declared by all present parliamentarians and candidates in the next elections should be posted on the EC website.

The TIP agreed with CEC Fakhruddin Ebrahim that if fair and transparent elections were not held, it would be disastrous for the country. In a quick response to the TIP letter to the CEC, Secretary General of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Dr Arif Alvi, thanked the TIP for a very comprehensive letter to the Chief Election Commissioner which covers a lot of aspects of concern of all those who want a free and fair electoral process.

Personal comment: One Billion PKR is not a big amount and the proposal is sane and strong one. It must be adopted and 50% of the corruption during the voting would be gone. The rest 50% is 'buying' votes especially in Rural Sindh and parts of Rural Punjab by giving away bags of letins, rice and wheat.

this is a must- if Kiyani is truly a well wisher of state of Pakistan and not like his superiors then this is the duty, security forces maybe called in to perform. this is part of their job !!

Eagerly looking forward to Fakkarudheen G Ibrahim to call security forces to watch the process of transit.

The status-quo would not give up their seats without a fight and bloodshed... it would be a sane decision to call in Army to overlook the security and transparency of the elections.

lol,

Since Imran Khan has been termed as the man of establishment and now Army to overlook the elections, who do you think would come into power? :azn:

Noon league is fully prepared to scare the voters by indulging into violence on election day. police cannot control them- its only Army that can handle these thugs to their limits-

this election will be fight of ownership between the right and statusquo (wrong).

Well, the Army is not really corruption free internally, but at least better than the other lot we have.

Cameras and other arrangements should be made though.

.
Yes, this is the way it should happen but it won't happen because PPP, PML-N, MQM, ANP, JUI wants to win the corrupt way.

.
This is what should happen, the army is the most trusted institution

LOL I thought PTI fanboys were against army interference but looks like they have comfortably sat on the laps of the army here. And since Immi Khan is in bed with Uncle Kiyani, we know the outcome of the elections.

MQM knows it would lose fair elections. Just last night, they threatened us subtly that they would not look after the house's security (In actual language, this means they'll come as Dacoits) if we don't pay Fitra to KKF

Most the pro-MQM people here don't show professionalism or maturity in their posts. How could you support someone (in minority) who isn't even a Pakistani nationalist? How could you support a party which has killed thousands in Karachi (if you say these are false allegations, my family member who once was from MQM was killed by MQM for leaving them. He was a typical MQM supporter, disbelieving in all the accusations after he found them true in the end and decided to protest and leave).

My uncle was in MQM and got in deep. When he found out too much, he suddenly had an 'accident' and broke his legs. And then left the country soon after.

On the same note, just today, a man stopped me as I was walking. He was on a bike and took out a gun and asked for my mobile. This type of thing never happens is our area and just happened today. Granted, I lied and said I didn't have one and the idiot didn't have the sense to check, I found it odd

Weren't you supposed to be a MQM supporter? From my experience, even if a person knows the wrongdoings of MQM, he still would refuse to accept it in an argument with a non-MQM supporter.
My far cousin was killed after he walked out of office after heated argument and told them (probably the biggest mistake he did) that their agenda and evil plans would not stay concealed. He called out a small Jalsa inviting all his colleagues and people of area, and was killed by 2 men sometime before he was going to speak. Had 3 kids, including a newborn.

Other family members living in Karachi are haunted after this death which is nearing it's 2nd anniversary.

I was but I've seen way too much of their brutality in the last two years to support them now; some of which I am not under liberty to express on this forum
