Timeline Gujarat 2002

Interesting. My point remains that he is divisive as a personality. In my opinion, whoever comes to power in Delhi doesn't matter because all ministers and their cronies are too busy filling their own coffers. Also the SIT report contradicts many fist person accounts. The truth might be somewhere in between. He is neither the saint his followers think he is, nor is he Satan incarnate as leftists tend to paint him. There might have been some prejudice in his actions. I really doubt if he knew about the magnitude of what was going to happen and how it would affect him for the rest of his life, he would have let it happen. That is my take.

Personal accounts are famously inaccurate. Ask five witnesses at a road accident to describe it after 1 hour and your nick will change to jawdrops :P

I'm not even going into the personal accounts of some victims who have said on camera that they were asked to say what they did. The world famous case of foetus killing story - later totally refuted by the doctor who performed the autopsy is one more example.

As always, an Indian cannot stick to the topic without bringing Pakistan into the debate.

It's that eternal obsession. Oh the obsession...

It was very much on topic.

People need to move on. Discussing this decade old thing to death doesn't help anyone. The courts are dishing out punishments as we speak.

We can't satisfy conspiracy theorists and haters. Nor do we see the need to.

Clearly, some of you are not ready to "move on".

He is simply addressing the Pakistani posts on the topic. After all many a poster from your side engages in threads on the Gujarat riot with much gusto. Nothing to do with obsession, one could equally argue that the need for any Pakistani to post on such matters or mention the Gujarat riots, which many do ad nauseum and ad infinitum points to a macabre obsession with the sad incident.

The sword cuts both ways, Pakistani posters reply to Indian posters with the Gujarat specter whenever the topic of religious or ethnic violence in Pakistan is raised- one would have thought that a reply on the same lines would sit well with the sensibilities of those who engage in similar practices.

Former Gujarat minister convicted for her role in 2002 anti-Muslim pogrom - World Socialist Web Site

The court, which sentenced her to a total of 28 years in prison, described her as “[the] kingpin of entire riots in the Naroda-Patiya area.” “She led the mob and incited them to violence.” This included pointing out targets for attack—Muslim religious places and chawls (tenements) where Muslims resided

lol predicted that FYI Maya Kodnani was not part of Gujarat Government during the time of riots

790 Muslims and 254 Hindus- official death toll...So anybody saying that it was just a muslim massacre is mistaken. And it should also be taken into account as to who drew the first blood before claiming it to be hindu conspiracy.

At the time of the 2002 riots, she was a sitting MLA.

That's why I asked the Indians to move on.

Apparently, they are not too keen to take your advice. This is not the first such thread just this week.

Indeed so why the acrimony when an Indian posts something in reply to a previous post by a Pakistani on the said forum. The post you were replying to simply asserted that your post on this thread was biased and not accurate due to your nationality. If that provokes you then I am sure you can reply to the poster is specific without terming it to be an obsession with Pakistan. He simply finds most of the opinions professed by Pakistanis on this topic to be prejudiced and absent substance- that is his prerogative.

For a senior member you seem to be quicker on the trigger than even novices like me.

Here's a thought to help you navigate any discussion, online or real life: focus on the content of the post, not the poster's nationality.

My comment about Indian obsession was in the context of the post which attempted to divert the topic from Gujarat onto some self-styled psychoanalysis of the Pakistani nation.

How is that a facepalm?
Does that negate my claim that sitting officers of the Modi government were involved in orchestrating the pogrom?

VHP up in arms against Modi govt, opposes move to seek death penalty for Kodnani

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat's VHP leadership is up in arms against Gujarat government's decision to seek death penalty for former state minister Maya Kodnani and nine others in connection with the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case.

"VHP strongly condemns the reported decision of the Gujarat government to seek death penalty for Maya Kodnani, Babu Bajarngi and other Hindus sentenced in the Naroda case," Gujarat VHP general secretary Ranchhod Bharwad told reporters here on Wednesday.

Calling the decision "shocking" and "a blow to Hindus", Bharwad has written to chief minister Narendra Modi urging him to withdraw the decision.

Recently, the Gujarat state legal department approved the recommendation of the Supreme Court appointed special investigation team (SIT) to file an appeal in the Gujarat high court, seeking enhancement of sentences to 10 convicts including former minister Maya Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi.

It has also decided to demand 30 years' imprisonment for 22 other convicts who were awarded jail terms of 24 years by designated Judge Jyotsna Yagnik on August 31, 2012.

A prosecution panel of three advocates has been appointed to draft and argue the appeal, which will also seek conviction of seven accused, who were acquitted by the designated court.

"We are worried about the safety of Hindus in our nation, as everywhere they are being attacked or feeling unsafe. And in Gujarat, innocent Hindus have been subjected to injustice because they were socially and politically active," he alleged.

Only ministers are office bearers. All other MLAs, be it from any party are the same - representatives and have no special administrative powers.

Also voter lists are not confidential government documents, they are available even to political parties.
