Needless bruhaha overhyped by media and unnecessary analyses. India is making a completely Indian-designed jet for the first time. What makes it worse is that the project was subject to cost overruns due to sanctions on India and its restrictions in cooperating with the then-consulting party - Boeing.
Tejas' experience tells us that cost overruns need to be factored in for future projects and any project needs to have a deadline set. As Tejas suffered from unforeseen political consequences, the timelines were broken, resulting in cost escalations to develop many technologies and designs from scratch.
The money is going to go back to the government here as HAL is owned by the government and its own public sector entities. Both as revenues and taxes the money remains in sovereign hands. IAF is just not able to come to terms with parting with so much money which gives them the option to become moody and change SQRs again and again with foreign contenders.
Indian Air Force has been behaving like a moody teenager since 2001 and it is appalling. MoD needs to hammer down the defence goods onto IAF to avoid any further political drama.
