Tuesday, June 18, 2013 - The Russian consul general in Karachi Andrey Demidov has said that our present political relations with Pakistan are excellent" and added that we in Russian recognize the important role of Pakistan in the modern world. He made these remarks while celebrating the nation day of the Russian Federation a couple of days ago. He said that Pakistan is one of the leading states in the Islamic world and the only Muslim country possessing nuclear weapons. Pakistan plays vital role in the Non-Alignment Movement, in the organization of Islamic cooperation, SAARC and others".
"We do not underestimate the role of Pakistan in ensuring regional stability and security in the world. We are absolutely sure that the development of the friendly ties between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan will contribute to the well being of our two peoples, the well being of the peoples of the region and of the world. Emphasising strongly that Russia believed in pursuing an active foreign policy, free of stereotypes , a policy that settlements of international problems, a policy that favours the expansion of beneficial cooperation in all regions of the world, he reminded his guests his countrys policy was of peace, and that not a single Russian soldier was now fighting outside national frontiers of his country.
Saying that this foreign policy was based on international law and morality, he stressed that we are supporters of strenghtening the legal and moral basis of international relations. In our view violation of national sovereignty, disrespect of human lives, disrespect of a moral nature of human being, that is a spiritual foundation of the world civilization, could have catastrophic consequences. Turning to another point, he said that in our view dialogue with Islamic civilizations should be a crucial component of inter-religious dialogue. The reason for that are quite obviousthe Islamic faith is second largest and second from the point of view of influence in Russia.
Talking of economic problems, he said that Russian has tremendous tasks ahead but emphasized that our relations with Asian countries are of a friendly nature, Russia, first and foremost is an Asian nationtwo thirds of our territory is Asia. From the last several years, positions taken by Russia in the south Asian region have become even stronger. Good prospects for cooperation with countries of the region are seen now. We think that the possibilities that are now opening for us and our partners, have to be effectively utilized. The chief guest, Sindh minister Nisar Khuhro spoke highly of the ties between the two countries, described the outgoing consul general as one of the finest friends, and a wonderful man. He hoped that bilateral ties will continue to grow. The function was largely attended by diplomats, leading journalists, businessmen and elite of the city.
