thyssenkrupp Marine Systems, the third largest German defense industry company and the world market leader in conventional submarines, is investing 250 million euros in Kiel by 2023.

The shipyard site is to be further developed into an international competence center for conventional submarine construction. Due to the currently good economic development with new orders, around 500 new employees will be hired throughout the company by the end of 2020, most of them in Kiel. Mainly engineers and specialists are needed, especially in development, design and production.

In recent years, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has successfully prevailed against strong competition in the overwater sector. In August 2019, the company was commissioned by a customer from Africa to build four frigates. Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is in charge of the construction of the most modern German naval ships, frigates of class F125: the "Baden-Württemberg" was commissioned by the German Navy in June 2019. In May of this year, the baptism of the first of four state-of-the-art corvettes for the Israeli Navy was also held. Already In April 2019, Brazil selected the company as the preferred bidder for the construction of four Tamandaré corvettes. In Germany, thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is involved in the construction of the second lot of the K130 Corvette.

In the underwater sector, the largest ever built in Germany conventional submarine for Singapore and the third of four submarines for Egypt were already baptized in the first months of this year. Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems is also working with its customers and partners to create the European NATO standard of the future in the field of conventional submarines with the 212CD project for the construction of a total of six identical submarines for Norway and Germany. Already today, 70 percent of the conventional NATO submarine fleet comes from the production of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems.
