ISLAMABAD: Three British Pakistani politicians have been elected as members of the European Parliament during elections. The three European Parliament members are Afzal Khan of the Labour Party, Sajjad Karim of the Conservative Party and Amjad Bashir of the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP), according to British media reports.

Sajjad Karim, who belongs to Mandi Bahauddin, was previously a member of the European Parliament. He was defending his seat after two 5-year terms for the third time and secured his position once again. He was the first British Muslim elected to the European Parliament on 4 June 2004 and was re-elected in June 2009 and 2014.

Afzal Khan, from Jehlum, has been elected as a member of European Parliament and is a senior member of the Labour Party. He was elected as lord mayor of Manchester, the youngest and first Asian Muslim at this post from 2005 to 2006. Amjad Bashir, born in Gujrat in 1952 has been elected as one of three MEPs representing Yorkshire and the Humber from the Independent Party.
