Three intelligence officials killed in Bannu: Police
By Reuters
Published: September 14, 2011
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Suspected Taliban militants killed three Pakistani intelligence officials in a tribal region on Wednesday, intelligence officials and police said.
The Pakistani Taliban, seen as the biggest security threat to the government, have become more brazen since their ally Osama bin Laden was killed in a US raid in Pakistan in May.
The militants have carried out high-profile suicide bombings and attacked a major naval base and Western targets.
In Wednesday’s attack, militants ambushed a vehicle carrying officials from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), opening fire from several directions on a road in the tribal region of Bannu. One intelligence official was wounded.
“The vehicle belonged to the ISI and was attacked with Kalashnikovs. Three people were killed and one was critically wounded,” Sajjad Khan, a senior police official, told Reuters.
They were low-ranking ISI officials.
About 5,000 security forces and police have been killed since Pakistan joined the US-led war on militancy after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States, Pakistani officials say.
The Taliban, who are close to al Qaeda, have recently focused on attacking pro-government tribes.
On Tuesday, the group claimed responsibility for a shooting attack on a school bus which killed five people, saying the children on the vehicle were from a pro-government tribe.

At least three agents of Pakistani's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) have been killed after six armed men ambushed a military vehicle on patrol in northwestern Pakistan, police say.

Two other people were wounded in Wednesday's ambush in Sarai Khan on the outskirts of Bannu city by the assailants believed to be pro-Taliban fighters, police said.

Sajjad Khan, the local police chief, told the AFP news agency the attackers opened fire on the army pickup truck from both sides of the road.

Security officials confirmed the attack and casualties.

It came a day after Taliban ambushed a school bus on the outskirts of the northwestern city of Peshawar, killing four children and the van driver.

At least 12 boys, two girls and two female teachers were wounded in the attack, said Qayyum Khan, a police officer.

The children studied at an elite English-language school of a type reviled by hardline fighters who oppose what they see as Western-imported, secular education.

Bannu, where the ambush happened, is located close to Pakistan's lawless tribal belt, which the United States considers the most dangerous region on earth and an al-Qaeda headquarters.

RAW-LIBANS cannot be tackled effectively, until pro-indian govt. is not kicked out.

Actually, RAW-LIBANS are desperate because of imminent ouster of their patrons in Pakistan assembly.

Well, even I can spot ISI, MI double cabins and 4x4's, really easy once you know what to look for.

Sad to hear though. RIP.
