Three FC soldiers killed, two kidnapped in Matani

PESHAWAR: Armed militants attacked a security post in Janay Khwar, Matani early on Friday, killing three soldiers of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and injuring as many before kidnapping two security personnel and taking away ammunition.
The attackers, according to sources, had kidnapped four FC men two of whom were later shot dead. Their bodies were recovered from a deserted place. Heavy contingents of FC and police were deployed on the boundary between Peshawar and tribal areas of Darra Adamkhel and Khyber Agency after the attack.
Around 50 militants armed with rockets launchers and automatic weapons stormed the FC post in Janay Khwar where two platoons of the FC were deployed at 2am to counter attacks on Peshawar from Darra Adamkhel, said an official. He added that the clash between the militants and security personnel lasted for almost two hours.
Three FC soldiers, including Akbar Khan and Samiullah, were killed and another two sustained wounds. Four security personnel were kidnapped by the attackers, who also took along with them three rocket launchers, six Kalashnikov rifles and other ammunition from the post, said a source, while adding that two were later killed while two others were still missing.
Police and FC officials said they had gunned down and injured a number of attackers, who were taken by the fleeing militants.A source disclosed that no clash had taken place in the area but the security personnel surrendered soon after the attack. Later, other contingents chased the militants and inflicted casualties on them.
Separately, three mortar shells landed from the tribal area in a brick kiln, injuring two persons - a watchman, Siddiq, and a passerby, Said Mohammad. A tractor was also damaged in the attack.
