There are a few recent developments which point towards a threat of violence and L&O situation in Karachi.
1) The stand which MQM has taken against the Establishment. Yesterday's press conference was an eye-wash and by late night it had become crystal clear that Altaf Husain remains the sole authority in MQM. Last night's surprise visit to Nine-Zero's vicinity by the DG Rangers himself along with a huge contingent, was a reply to the press conference to MQM. The message has been conveyed that all MQM offices will remain closed and any abetters and facilitators of Altaf's addresses/speeches will not be spared. Moreover, the crackdown on MQM's militant wing will continue unabated. Latest intel reports coming in reveal that message has been sent by Rabta Committee to all unit incharges in Karachi, Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas to be ready for the call for a "show of strength", anytime;
2) The chatter tells that RAW-NDS has mobilised its assets (in TTP and BLA) to trigger suicide and remote controlled bomb blasts in Karachi in the coming days;
3) After last night's clear message by the establishment to MQM, Altaf Husain gave a statement today that he's surrendering party affairs to Rabta Committee. There is likelihood that MQM will orchestrate turf-wars among MQM's internal factions in the coming days, creating a serious law and order situation comprising of mass-killings and gun-battles in Karachi resulting in the city being shut down. Thereafter, the "Quaid" will intervene, bring all factions under one leadership again and prove to the establishment that HE ALONE is the solution.
The security agencies are vary of the situation and trying their best to have plans in place to address any eventuality.
