Those who think tsunami ended with Pasha must see PTI rallies
ISLAMABAD: Those who consider the departure of Lt General (r) Shuja Pasha as the end of Tsunami must see the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rallies in south Punjab, Sialkot and Mianwali, said PTI Chairman Imran Khan while rejecting the impression that the former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief was propping up his party.
Addressing a press conference at a local hotel on Sunday to announce a countrywide membership campaign, Khan said the ruling party and opposition were united for their vested interests and would not expose each other to accountability. He downplayed the effectiveness of the parliamentary recommendations over restoration of NATO supply lines and announced the PTI would not become a part of the government-opposition alliance over the issue. He also reiterated his position against the NATO and US war on terror, saying the country had sacrificed its 40,000 people and had suffered a whopping loss of $70 billion. Khan recalled the winning of the World Cup on the same day 20 years ago, saying the nation would once again see victory against the challenges it faced, adding that the PTI would work for a new Pakistan.
He also reiterated his resolve to eradicate corruption, besides bringing in the local government system. Thana and patwari systems will be abolished, only merit will prevail in all appointments, he added. Terming the PTIs new membership campaign the largest ever such drive by any political party, Imran said the campaign would run for two months, followed by party elections. The PTI is a democratic party and it will choose its leaders through party elections, he said. The chairman and all party leaders would be elected through party elections. The membership drive would be extended worldwide to facilitate the overseas Pakistanis, he added. The CEC of the PTI also unanimously approved the constitution of the party. Ibrarul Haq was nominated as the president of the partys youth wing. PTI President Javed Hashmi, Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Information Secretary Shafqat Mehmood, Secretary General Dr Arif Alvi and other party leaders were also present on the occasion. inp
