I think these are possible reasons. That would definitely explain the rather shrill domestic media noise in China, which is quite rare.
However, they could apply to us as well. What if Modi decides he needs a crisis come 2019? He will get votes out of a conflict. I can already imagine the Sunday Mann ki baat special edition...!!!
Jokes apart, so far Indian is not playing to the gallery, maybe because a war with China never really held the kind of emotional appeal that war with Pakistan has. Which explains why we so casually admit to what happened in 1962 - imagine what our reaction would be had it been Pakistan.
