On the first look it seems that this Rickshaw driver is taking his daughter along with him to work, probably she cant be left alone at home. If we look closely, this man has lost his right arm and he cannot accelerate the Rickshaw. The girl helps him accelerate the rickshaw thus earn money.

The man refuses to beg on the streets and send his daughter to work as a maid in people's homes. The thought is good. We should also be thankful to God that we have both arms in perfect condition, with which we type and post on PDF here and also do our daily chores. Being physically fit is a blessing and this man with one arm will probably not secure a job somewhere and the thought of begging haunts him, so he is doing his own business, with a partner, his daughter.

There is a downside here also, the girl is missing precious education that is not only her right but also beneficial for her family and also for the society and Pakistan. The man must also remember that she will grow up one day and will not fit his lap anymore to give her services for rickshaw. There are very slim chances that he will sit home that day and make her a rickshaw driver, lets see.

It pains to see what people go through to earn money and maintain dignity in our society. Unfortunately they turn to such methods where many will agree with them and most people may not.

We are truly a bunch of thank less lot, we must thank God everyday, for not putting us in such difficult situations to earn money. We sit in air-conditioned offices and money in bank every month. We easily get 3 meals a day with our salaries. We eat with our right hand and sip tea/coffee. Many of us write with our right hand. We drive our own cars as we want, when we want. we don't need to wait for someone to come and push accelerator for us or even change gears. Some of us have drivers. We can easily do grocery and pay money with our both hands. There are a lot of other day to day chores we do with our hands and yet we complain for not having so many things in life, our mind revolves around more and more. We should not forget that there are people who cant even think about more because they are just surviving on what they actually have.

Its time we thank God for all the blessings He gave us.

A simple modification can give him a left foot or hand throttle.

i think its commendable that the man refused to give up on himself and has found a way to earn an honest living.

A simple modification can give him a left foot or hand throttle.

That was a heartless comment man...

That was a heartless comment man...

What was heartless?

It is extremely common. There is a guy in my city who rides a bike. He has no left leg. A local garage has modified the gear lever linkage for him. And he happily rides all around town.

I thought Pakistanis were good at fabrications, mechanics, etc. If you have an entire industry that makes copies of top level guns, surely this should be a piece of cake?

The father could earn with dignity. And his daughter could get the education she deserves.

A rickshaw driver hardly earns 10k a month and that too if he owns the rickshaw and is not simply a driver. He has to manage all his household expenses in this minute amount and i seriously doubt that he will have a small family. Don't you think that the guy will not have gone to any workshop to get the rickshaw modified? maybe he might simply be saving up some money to pay for the required modification. Who knows what the exact story is.

My comment was more in line our perceived privilege that causes us to pass comments on how things should be done. We hardly empathize with others unless we have been put through the same experience. And it is not a personal attack on anyone...Cheers mate

I understand that he would not be able to get this done on his own. I'm sure Syed does as well.

But any company can come forward and get it done for him. It would cost peanuts. Now that the man has come into the public eye, its definitely going to happen.

Common sense, apparently, is not common. :D

It would take hardly any effort to fix up the rickshaw for him locally, surely.

It would cost peanuts.

What planet do you live on? If it's Earth, then are peanuts $ 10,000/kg?

@Syed.Ali.Haider I think your missing the point of the article/OP dude, it clearly reads "...Are we thankless.." to which the mutual response will be "Yes".

Of course modifications can be done but does that man (the rickshaw driver) even know of prosthetics? Even if so, how much would they cost? How much will the surgery/operation cost? Knowing Pakistan, they will charge the surgery 2-5x the cost of the prosthetic itself. Unless a saint comes in to help/donate.

I dont think the OP intended to discuss whether the guy can modify his vehicle to drive with out disturbing his daughter........ Probably the OP wanted to tell not to take life for granted......

If the aman ki asha thing was still running, Bajaj would have made one and sent it across.

Btw, the rickshaws in Pakistan. Are they Pakistan made?? Looks different ...

Talk about missing the point.

Who is talking about surgery or prosthetics here?

The quoted member mentioned a "left foot" (@Syed.Ali.Haider) so presumably you need a prosthetic + a surgery. Or would you recommend another possibility?

Sigh.

Left foot or hand throttle.

Bhai, if I was in Pakistan I could make it for bhaijan inside a day. Have you guys seen an ATV? Do you know how its throttle works?

Although because of the scooter type rotary gears and the fact that his left hand has to both shift gears and steer, a car type foot accelerator pedal would be the better option.

Sigh.

Left foot or hand throttle.

The right hand throttle grip can be swapped over to the left with minimum effort, but why think when one can be emotional, right? If he cannot master the clutch and gearshift on the left at the same time, a left foot assembly can be made easily. Even a right foot assembly will work, since the rear brake and throttle are not used together, as in a car. There are plenty of mechanics who can do this, locally.
