Pakistan is slowly losing its pluralistic nature due to minorities being pushed under the mat, denying their fundamental right to life and equal opportunities. But this neglected white in the flag has served Pakistan more than what we served us.
Here are the 10 non-Muslim heroes who have made us all proud!
- Ardeshir Cowasjee
Often regarded as the old guardian of the city of Karachi, Cowasjee’s services are nothing hidden or new. He is a philanthropist, businessman and originating from Karachi.
- Bapsi Sidhwa
Sidhwa resides in the United States currently and is a renowned novelist from Pakistan. Her work has often been highlighted and appreciated on international platforms as well. She is currently 79 years old.
- Mary Emily Gonsalves
Mary is a Roman Catholic nun from Karachi. She has contributed a lot to the education department and was also given Sitara-e-Imtiaz by the Governor of Sindh.
- Ruth Katherina Martha Pfau
She was a German-born nun and was also a member of the Society of Daughters of the Heart of Mary. She devoted the last 50 years of her life to fighting leprosy in Pakistan and is celebrated for her exemplary service to humanity.
- Gertrude Lemmens
Often addressed as the Mother Teresa of Pakistan, Gertrude Lemmens has worked a lot for the poor, handicapped and needy. People without shelter found under her guidance. She also won the Sitara-i-Quaid-i-Azam for her work.
- Minocher Bhandara
Minocher Bhandara was a representative of the minorities, a businessman and also an active member of the national assembly. He was also the builder and owner of many companies in Pakistan. Murree Brewery lies amongst them, whose shares were bought by his father.
- Wing Commander Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat
Wing Commander Mervyn Leslie Middlecoat was a member of the Pakistan Air Force. He was a fighter pilot and was a part of aerial battles during the Indo-Pakistani. He was shot down on 12 December 1971. His remains were never found but he was given the Sitara-i-Jurat for his efforts and contributions.
- Justice Rustam Sohrabji Sidhwa
He was a former judge in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and he also one of the eleven judges of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
- Anthony Theodore Lobo
Anthony is a Pakistani Roman Catholic Bishop who made a lot of contributions to the educational field. He was given the ‘’Pride of Performance’’ award.
- Anil Dalpat Sonavaria
He was the first ever Hindu to play test cricket for Pakistan. He was a replacement for Wasim Bari.
