Yes, Taiwan is very much a threat to mainland China -- in proper context.

China views Taiwan as a 'runaway' province which at least implies that China must put this 'runaway' in line. The fact that Taiwan have been effectively de facto independent all these decades means China could not do anything about it. Taiwan's military capabilities are not about invading mainland China but about keeping China at bay. So yes, by virtue of being able to keep the PLA restrained means Taiwan is a military threat to China.

But then again, this is a military oriented forum. As you are nothing more than a keyboard warrior, I do not expect much from you.
