Army to stage 'realistic' guerrilla war exercise in rural Carolinas

I remember few months back telling people that the US could be invaded in the next war and people shout me completely down as being to far fatched but technically not really if you look at from strictly conventional point of view.. If they were defeated in two places an invasion is guaraanted and these two places are in the airforce and Navy if their airforce was decimated and along with Navy then there is nothing they could do to prevent an invasion..

Hence you only gotta beat them in these two places in order to land forces on the Americas at will.... Re-colonizing the Americas

Cough China Cough...... Some of you even said this is out of the realm of possibility... But I said fat nope this is not only in the realm of possibility but high probabliity

How can you be so certain is the question? Have you seen the algorithm outcome? What makes you think US airforce can't be decimated?? and warships? It will all come down to that..

Its a special forces exercise, their bread and butter is asymmetric warfare. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Forget about me reading to much into it.. But what guraantees that US airforce can't be decimated and Navy? Do they have a certification from heavens that this won't be the case and that there airforce is invincible by divine decree? As a matter fact as we speak right now they may have been surpassed in these two specific areas making a ground invasion a high probability outcome

The thread title is misleading and does not indicate any civil war in the US

Breathe, sit down and think for a second.

How would you transport conservatively 2-3 million troops and the resulting logistical supply chains to invade the US across the two biggest oceans. Each soldier would need ammunition and food daily to fight, how do you plan on getting that material from one corner of the earth to another through a war zone nonetheless and who pays for that cost?

US geography is one of its greatest defensive assets, you could send millions to invade and even if they were to simply walk from one coast to another, they won't be enough due to the immense geographical size.

Even if hypothetically, US Airforce and Navy is obliterated unless one can shut down the factors of US production, what stops them from attacking the enemy homeland from the safety of their homes and replacing their losses. Losing aircrafts vs killing enemy cities is a bet Americans can live with. You lose civilians, the Americans can bomb or simply sanction your factors of production and that would count as a severe blow. How would you counter that?

This doesn't even address the elephant in the room, in a military conflict having superior weapons is not the deciding factor, tactics, strategies, operational military policies that make the entire fighting unit streamlined to their strengths are. These are gained, sadly only from operations and after much trial and error, no technology can fill this gap currently. Which heavenly decree defying country or power are you thinking of that can match the operational awareness and knowledge the US fighting forces possess.

Also, if you are at war with one country you do realise that one can't sell stuff to them at the same time right? Export driven economies face this financial leverage pressure and would not be emotionally driven like mentally deficit fanbois to read unrelated newsarticles and start orgasming out fantasies. The seller is more at risk than the buyer.

A simpler debate topic would be suggest a nation to invade the US and I'll tell you why it's operationally either improbable or financially a suicide move.

Critical thinking should be stressed in modern school curriculums :disagree: .

OP intentionally distorting the article. This is not an article talking about defending the US from an invasion force.

Army to stage 'realistic' guerrilla war exercise in rural Carolinas

Army Special Forces candidates will train in a “realistic” guerrilla war to be fought in rural North Carolina and South Carolina counties later this month, according to the service.

Known as the Robin Sage training exercise, the two-week “unconventional warfare” drill is the final test of candidates’ Special Forces Qualification Course training.

The drill will take place Jan. 22 to Feb. 4 on privately owned land across 25 counties in North Carolina and three counties in South Carolina, the U.S. Army's John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School said in a news release.

The Army did not provide the exact times and locations of the exercises, which will include the candidates fighting against “realistic opposing forces and guerrilla freedom fighters” in a fictional, unstable country known as Pineland.

“Candidates are placed in an environment of political instability characterized by armed conflict, forcing Soldiers to analyze and solve problems to meet the challenges of this ‘real-world’ training,” the school noted.

To make the training more realistic, service members from units across Fort Bragg will act as opposition forces and civilian volunteers will be role-players.

Residents in the area were informed they “may hear blank gunfire and see occasional flares,” to make sure that they don’t mistake the fighting for terrorism or criminal activity.

The statement adds that “controls are in place to ensure there is no risk to persons or property,” but residents with concerns “should contact local law enforcement officials, who will immediately contact exercise control officials.”

Cough China Cough......

You could have tens of thousands of foreign troops secretly packed into train freightcars invading your country instantly in a sneak attack and within an hour completely take you over.

Excellent post.
Also to mention the US can intercept any potential invasion fleet on the way, case study being the Royal Navy defending Britain against Nazi assault.
They also have a huge population, much of it armed making the occupation an even harder affair.

.
OP. There is fear in the establishment of an uprising, not a foreign invasion.

Increasingly, the enemy are their own people.

.
An invasion of the US is pretty much suicide. Even if China succeeds, and by some chance nukes aren't used, any invading force would never recover from the damage dealt.

These exercises are to simulate urban insurgent warfare, because the US expects its immediate wars to all involve facing major urban insurgencies, similar to what it faced in Iraq.

How about asking our resident simulation expert @SQ8 to see how a Chinese invasion of the US would go.

Agreed, the USA's unique geographical position, it's unimpeded progress for almost three centuries make it nigh impossible to approach it uncontested. Hypothetically, even if one managed to reach there, the gargantuan cost of the enterprise in terms of manpower, materials and economic power would be soul crushing.

Modern wars between great powers will be for the economic pie rather than a geographical one.
