The US and China: A Tale of Two Inflations, US consumers this summer pay $28 for a takeout salad and $68 for a seasonal barbecue

指鼠为鸭?
A couple of low-level officers in this incident did attempt to get away with his dereliction of duty by pointing to a rat's head in his food as a duck's head. You can laugh at that all you want.

But I need to remind you that it only took a week for the regulators of these officers to get the documentary evidence not only publicized by sending the rat heads for identification, but also to send these officers to a disciplinary board.

Can the regulators in your country do that, please?

No one would notice it if this tiny scandal made by a low level local official happened in anywhere but China. China is under US propaganda machine sighting telescope. US uses all possible chance to defame China by mobilizing all its propaganda army to exaggerate any tiny flaws in China.

I believe no one here ever heard Taiwan president Tsai used her presidential plane to smuggle cigarette. When the scandal was exposed, Tsai said it's no "smuggle". It's "over-buy".

Every country has such shameless officials, the difference is the ability of your watchdog to clear and discipline them in time.

These Indians could not see the efficiency and determination of the Chinese govt in the incident, but went on to ridicule the most superficial incident itself.

I think there is a big difference in the way Chinese and Indians look at things logically and think.

You are missing the point. The cost of restaurant meals is driven by the market. When consumers seek low cost meals ,competition is fierce and margins are tight you encounter the duck-rat phenomenon. When the market demands low cost, producers cut corners by compromising on quality.

You're the one who's got the wrong question.

This incident took place in a school cafeteria, which is subsidized by the state, and there is no such thing as a low cost issue.

This is a serious hygiene incident and many people will pay the price for such an incident.

That's why a couple of officials tried to disguise the rat heads found by students as duck heads.

well I didn’t say the cafeteria itself deliberately procured rat meat to save money. My comment was a general observation of the food industry in China. Pricing pressure results in suppliers cutting corners on food safety.

You can't, if you are earning "Chinese level pays" in the US.

Dude, you are comparing an economy of around 50,000 GDP per capita to a country with $12,000 GDP per capita and you are comparing the quality of life of both. You pay more because you earn more. I mean that is a very simple economy concept. Or do you think a gallon of milk should still be less than $1 like it was in the 1986 when American today generally are paid 2 to 3 times more than in the 1980s.

And pricing index have very little to do with GDP to begin with.
Hey genius, even if you are earning more, how the heck did salads becane 60$,i've liv3d jn the States too ya know. Stop creating excuses to justify this grand US fxk up jn printing cash and causing inflation my dear mulatto cheerleader.

This is just insane, how can people survive at such a crazily high cost of living? No matter US GDP is this high on paper, I m very surprised that US GDP is not multiply times higher with this consumption price....
Same in Canada, check the online prices the times for $10 lunch or dinner is long gone.
