The Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) Market 2011-2021 Technologies for ISR and Counter-Insurgency - market research report on Reportlinker

Despite defence spending cuts announced recently, armed forces continue to prioritise spending on unmanned aerial vehicles. UAVs have continually proved themselves in Iraq and Afghanistan and their relative low-cost compared to manned platforms makes them highly attractive alternatives in a climate of restrained or even declining defence budgets. In fact, in some cases UAV spending is substituting spending on manned platforms. Based on visiongain's research, global spending on UAVs will reach $7.8bn in 2011. This will fluctuate in the forecast period of 2011-2021, with value remaining high over the forecast period.

There are many types of UAVs offered and these all fall into five broad categories as noted in this report. Countries that seek to acquire a UAV capability would typically buy a wide range of types, such as small hand-launched UAVs, medium-sized tactical UAVs and large medium- or high-altitude long endurance UAVs. Armed forces with larger budgets are also becoming involved in the development of unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs). Countries with maritime borders would also seek naval UAVs. The civil UAV market has strong potential but continues to be subject to strict rules laid down by aviation regulators. The UCAV submarket shows strong potential for spending once technologies mature in the latter part of the decade.

Visiongain reviews the UAV market and provides global and national market forecasts for five major UAV submarkets:

• High-Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAVs

• Medium-Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs

• Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs)

• Tactical UAVs

• Small UAVs

Visiongain also reviews the market for three UAV segments that straddle the submarkets:

• Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) UAVs

• Naval UAVs

• Civil UAVs

Good to see Pakistan is one of leading nation. But no offense, surprise to see India name in top 20 list, who been importing UAVs from Israel.

If Pakistan is in the list India certainly is, it has operated many from Israel but is developing its own advanced UAV/UCAVs for the future.
