The SCS Joint Oil Exploration Idea

Once China showed they use UNCLOS to define EEZ only favor their interest, while ignore it and use fake historical aspect to take advantage of others. It is unable to identify which is the disputed area, which is overlapped one.

The agreement could work only if there's exact overlapped areas agreed by 3 sides.

When China could brings Oil Rig 981 to Vietnam EEZ, violated agreed UNCLOS rule, they could also violate any agreed terms and conditions, law and rules.

SAme to Scarbough shoal, China lured PH to with draw PH ships for nego and unilateral capture it. Vietnam never been lured like that way.

Always protest and intercept the wrong activities by all you have, never give them chance to take advantage of you.

Well said, and that makes sense now. It was bound to failure since China's voracious 9 dash claim just neutralizes the other claimants AOSI (areas of strategic interests) in the SCS. Well, gotta give it to China, they used the Tripartite Agreement as a platform to find out the areas of mineral deposits in the SCS. Of course, unbeknownst to the other sides of China's ulterior motive...to claim the entire thing.

I mean, what was Vietnam and Philippines going to do? Send in Tora Tora planes to go against Type 052 Destroyers? :disagree: :hitwall:

The Chinese are, indeed, tactical. Never, ever , ever underestimate them.

I remember reading that two years ago. Unfortunately Manila was baited to listen to such false pretense.

Hm. First rule in Judo sparring, "Never, ever lower your eyes on your enemy."

Vietnam opinion is never buy illusive peace / friendship by territories.
Means we never fear a needed war of protecting our territories.
PH fears and they lose Scarborough

You should track what Deputy PM of Vietnam explained in USA this week.
While President of PH said he didn't understand China acts, Vietnam official said they knows quite well about CN.

The oil rig incident is just tip of an iceberg, we have been fighting without a bullet for decades among Spratlys and Paracels reefs.

Let think, does it make sense if suddenly Vietnam fishboats appears near Paracels ? No, they have been there hundreds years so far and never abandon the Vietnam EEZ.

The publicize of conflict recently only show Vietnam would NOT go for bilateral agreement in SECRET.Now any crash, hit ... would be streamed live ...
That never means we start to fight, but our continuous fighting would be revealed.

Vietnam also has the military advantage. The Philippines still has limited naval capabilities. Vietnam has now the Kilo Class subs, and multiple missile corvettes that can pose as a threat to China's South Sea Fleet. The point is, Vietnam has a defense capability: naval, air , and ground. The Philippines has the ground component, but they do not have tactical fighters to challenge Chinese air units, let alone their surface fleet.

A direct military conflict will play to China's favor. This is why diplomatic processes are pursued while Manila builds a minimum credible defense.

Very interesting , indeed. Then the more and more I realize a joint exploration with China is absolutely counterproductive to both Vietnam's and Philippines' interests.

Perhaps Vietnam and the Philippines could consider joint exploration with Japan. A Tripartite Agreement between Japan-Vietnam-Philippines to explore and develop the natural deposits in each others, assets in the South China Sea.

;)

We learn from the pasts. Diplomatic victories always come after military victories. That's true for cases : Dien Bien Phu - Geneva Accord; Linebacker II operations and Paris accord. ...
Without the ability to make enemies suffered significant damages, unable to push them on nego table.

Interestingly enough, We Japanese had warned the Philippine side about joint exploration with China.....!

:disagree::disagree:

A Japanese expert is warning the Philippines that a joint exploration between countries with territorial disputes, particularly in the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea) may not be a solution to the conflict.
Dr. Yoichiro Sato of the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) in Honolulu, Hawaii, United States, said actual practices in the South and East China Seas reveal that “joint exploration and development proposals are not only economically motivated, but also made with intentions to set a legal precedence to advance the country’s claim to the disputed water.”

“As such, they too are the manifestations of the conflicts, rather than solutions to the conflicts,” he said.

I love the plan of Japan, 12 subs and 12 nuclear ICBMs. We all know that show your preparation for making sure your peace, not for attacking anyone if needless.

how many destroyers our enemy has, we have ten time bigger q'ty of supersonic antiship missiles.
how many MBTs and helos they have, we prepared hundreds times bigger q'ty of RPG and Manpad ...

PH trying to buy peace by all price. They should be able to protect the peace.

We should not attempt to 1 vs 1. a good lock and a telephone line could protect your house from gangsters at least for a given duration.

Never let the Wolf put a foot into your house.

-------
A mother goat leaves her seven children at home while she ventures into the forest to find food. Before she leaves, she warns her young about the Big Bad Wolf who will try to sneak into the house and gobble them up. The Big Bad Wolf will pretend to be their mother and convince the kids to open the door. The young children will be able to recognize their true mother by her white feet and sweet voice.
The mother goat leaves and the seven kids stay in the house. Before long, they hear a voice at the door that says "Let me in children, your mother has something for each and every one of you". His gruff voice betrays him and the kids do not let him in. A little while later, they hear another voice at the door: "Let me in children, your mother has something for each and every one of you". This time the voice is high and sweet like their mother's. They are about to let him in when the youngest kid looks under the crack in the door and notices the Big Bad Wolf's big, black feet. They refuse to open the door, and the Big Bad Wolf goes away again.
The Big Bad Wolf goes to the bakery and buys some flour, smearing it all over his coat, turning his black feet white. He returns to the children's house, and says "Let me in children, your mother has something for each and every one of you". The kids see his white feet and hear his sweet voice, so they open the door. The Big Bad Wolf jumps into the house and gobbles up six of the kids. The youngest child hides from the wolf and does not get eaten.

Vietnam culture is rich with similar phrases of those. I will try to find the good translations of Vietnamese version.

Agreed. A direct conflict with China now is not to the interest of the Philippines. First, build defense capabilities.

Going into a conflict with China at present (as in a shooting war) would likely pushed us on the brink of societal collapse as it could empty our treasuries and even if we win in a conflict with China, we would lose a country.

Anyways, I think that both Vietnam and Philippines should consider Joint Research and Drilling with Japan. We have Japan Drilling Co., LTD. And we already have experience in working with Vietnam and Philippines.

JAPAN DRILLING CO., LTD has worked with:

Philippines
AMOCO Philippines, Phillips Petroleum Co. Far East, Total Exploration Philippines, St. Joe Petroleum Philippines Co., Alcorn (Production) Philippines Inc., Japex Philippines Ltd.

and

Vietnam
Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn. Bhd., Petro Canada (Vietnam) Inc., AEDC Vietnam Ltd., Total Oil & Gas International B. V., Japan Vietnam Petroleum Company, Premier Oil Vietnam South B.V., Con Son Joint Operating Company, Plains Vietnam Ltd., ONGC Videsh Limited

Clients | Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC)

And Yes, we cooperated with US, Japanese, Indian, Russian, Canadian, UK, Petronas Malaysia.
