What's new

The pope attributed a second miracle to Mother Teresa, paving the way to sainthood next year

Her main subjects were lepers in their last stage who were already rejected from the hospitals. A normal human woudn't touch them out of revulsion and fear stay clear of them and mother used to embrace them like they were her sons and clean them by her bare hands and made sure they were cared for in their last days and have a place to rest instead of dying slowly by the roads.

However I agree she could've also opened schools and hospitals with all that money that kept pouring in, however she choose not to, I dont know why. One could also argue that schools, hospitals are more of govt's job and mother did her niche thing in which she had expertise.

Well it is what it is.

What is the christian sect that keeps opening top rated schools and colleges like don bosco, st stephens, loreto, la mars, xaviers? Are they catholic or some other sect?
She refused painkillers for the suffering and sometimes did not send the patients to govt hospitals... I understand govt hospitals did not accept many of the patients from road, but she had the influence to give them a decent treatment in a govt hospital. I am not denying her compassion(no matter where motivation might come from), but did she actually get medical advice/treatment for her patients? not all of them were dying.

She believed pain is good for you, it cleans your soul. You are closer to God in the process. I dont believe she was operating to convert people(like evangelists), mostly she wanted the best for people, and what is better than jesus?

Two miracles are generally required for canonization. Mother Teresa was beatified in 2003 after the Vatican concluded that an Indian woman’s prayers to the nun caused her incurable tumor to disappear. The second miracle involves a Brazilian man who suffered a viral brain infection that caused multiple abscesses, and eventually left him in a coma and dying. His wife had been praying for months to Mother Teresa, and on Dec. 9, 2008, as he was about to be taken to emergency surgery, she and her husband’s priest and relatives intensified their prayers.

The next morning, the man fully awoke, with normal cognition, according to the Rev. Brian Kolodiejchuk, a Canadian priest who was the postulator, or chief proponent, of Mother Teresa’s canonization. The man did not need surgery, and resumed his work as a mechanical engineer. Moreover, although doctors had previously told him that he was sterile because of his weakened immune system and antibiotics, he and his wife had two healthy children, in 2009 and 2012, Father Kolodiejchuk said.

On Sept. 10 of this year, a medical commission “voted unanimously that the cure is inexplicable in the light of present-day medical knowledge,” and on Oct. 8 a theological inquiry “voted unanimously that there was a perfect connection of cause and effect between the invocation of Mother Teresa and the scientifically inexplicable healing,” Father Kolodiejchuk said.

While is Indian states are enacting anti-superstitions laws with Liberals support, wondering why Indian liberals are not saying any thing on this stupid miracle news and saint making process which is simply against common sense.

because its core part of belief system... superstition when its core of a belief system is sheldom challenged...
very few questioned possibility of flying monkey god... but pedo babas... and radhe ma... surely they can be challenged.

is it great than self declared goddess modern Radhema and puttaparthi sai baba... what it supposed to do with us... you are quite silly than i thought. .

most of your threads are against Christianity. ... shows your cry and hatred ... days ago you opened a thread about a pastor. . whenever i replied similar incident done by temple priest. ..and your claim innocent until proven guilty. . you took u turn.. don't you have any other work..

Are you seriously comparing Mother Teresa with modern Radhema? I just asked your views on the "miracle" part, why are you being defensive?

Her hospices were called home of dying and they primarily catered to people who are dying and have nowhere to go. I'd assume like most institutes it didnt run at 100% efficiency and sometimes didnt send people to hospitals when they could be saved. However i dont thinl it was intentional and also the state of govt hospitals have been dismal throughout last 5 decades and most of the time it will operate grossly over capacity. People went to mother because she provided better care for them than they would get in hospitals. Yes she could use her influence after she became famous world over but then she could also open a super speciality hospital with her charity money.

I agree like most of charity workers she was also bound by her religion so refused painkillers.

I don't agree with the miracles, brain tumour cant be cured by praying, so obviously the patient is lying. In my opinion sainthood based on lie tarnishes mother's image rather than elevating it.

My view on mother is complex and like most of my other opinions rests somewhere between sanghi idea of 'she was here to harvest souls' and the other generally accepted idea of 'she was a living saint and solely responsible for uplifting the destitutes of india'.

I think there are other organizations who also worked a lot for society and but isn't as recognized as mother, an example of that would be Ramkrishna Mission. I also acknowledge the fact the mother was somehow bound by her religion and didn't spend millions of dollars of charity to arguably more fruitful things like school, hospitals or workshops.

However her compassion for poor and sickly was bottomless, her main goal was to provide a shelter for the dying and care for them and she was peerless in her effort. When none would touch the lepers and they would be dying slowly beside the roads, mother would take them in and clean them with her bare hands, she never asked if they were hindu, muslim or christian before taking them in and never asked them to convert in return, and I respect her for showing such compassion for the lowest rung of the our society.

Point well taken and I completely agree with you on that this sainthood would tarnish mother teresa's image.

Agnes was just a bad nurse. She refused treatment to people who could have been cured. She preyed on poor souls abandoned by mainstream society and prolonged their death. In turn her Trust/Business converted the remnants of some of the families. She remained a pawn of the Church - an anti abortion crusader and a diplomatic quack.

I completely agree with you on that this sainthood would tarnish mother teresa's image.
It will elevate the Evangelical lady. Especially in secular bastions. Trust me on this. :) She will find a way in school textbooks in full force now as one of India's finest social workers.

Oh man! You should immediately go for a paternity test! Take that 'father' too for it, he might be the 'miracle man'! :P

oh religious retardness on rise... crying for everything on other religion. .. I would be happy if you would have opened similar thread when someone claimed himself as god just like Radhema.. or when a temple priest raped a kid... along with threads related to Churches and pastors.... saffron boys... all the best...
