The reprehensible treatment of religious minorities that occurs across the globe and is often advocated for by many is, quite frankly, appalling on various levels. First and foremost, it is utterly pointless and only makes societies descend into a chaotic feudal mess, as one can see in geopolitics today. The clergy who promote such a hateful mindset will typically use it as a drug for the masses so that they can die over their petty disputes, and this is a serious issue for societies that allow them to continue (but more on this later). Secondly, on a religious basis, virtually all religions (including Islam) forbid going around and lynching, spitting upon, beating and committing other such crimes against minorities. You will be very hard pressed to find any ethical system that permits such actions.

With regards to South Asia in particular, whilst the increased awareness and disgust that people from our part of the world are developing towards these things is positive, more work can be done and needs to be done. People need to be taught a proper understanding of religion that is controlled by more normative figures, not these fringe crazies who try to pollute society with their cancer. Certain ideologies starting with "h" and "w" (without giving any specific names) need to be cracked down upon in order to reverse the damage they've inflicted and prevent others from being infected by them. How can one possibly hope to resolve the issue of intolerance, if the cause is not effectively dealt with?

This issue is of particular importance to me because of the bitter opinions I once held and even occasionally propagated here on defence.pk as well as elsewhere. Alhamdulillah, I managed to save myself from the retardation effect before it was too late, but I'm the exception. Most go so deep that they never come out of it. We need to put a stop to this.

Make no mistake, this is just as important as revitalising a national consciousness based upon the history of our civilisation, if not synonymous with it. Do not stop until every religious bigot has been reformed or locked up.

Whenever you polarise a majority vs minority on any visible marker/identity (assumed, gained or intrinsic)...you open the force that is the mob.

Mobs may play by someones rules initially. Problem is mobs will be back again and again once you uncork that as the normal and set as the precedent....especially if the initial mob is led to believe it achieved something good (and then good simply becomes defined by mob action).

They will eventually make more majority vs minority rules for their own sustenance. The cycle will keep consuming...and the "initial" "rules" and "goals" become a distant memory....because its about the finality of the mob and might being and making right...at any cost.

The human psyche can unfortunately in significant enough proportion and prevalence....sustain itself on the most pitiful wretched things...it is the most common denominator across the world both in time and space.

So its no way to let a true identity for a country to define rationally (with suitable enlightenment at its highest echelons) and coalesce more steadily and project positively....because literally anyone leading a mob one day (or merely amongst it) can be a target of the mob a later day.

Never free, never me....so I dub thee unforgiven!
You label me, I label you...so I dub thee unforgiven!

Absolutely agreed, for both countries and fora. :D

The sad truth is that it takes a certain modicum of farsightedness to heed the advice above.

Somewhere in an old thread a few years back, some senior members were discussing a little bit about the poisoning of societies with intolerance (this was around APS), and extremism in general. Everyone knows the roots, but I'm glad to say that in the most recent decades, it seems to me that Pakistan has been moving away from the worst of it, we've had plenty of time and bloodletting to allow us all, including policy makers, to re-examine societal ideals.

I think being overly cautious about this pays off. As once a society adopts the intolerance, no underlying policy from above can easily remedy mindsets that have become hateful and turned to stone so that they can't change, they might just as easily resist that sort of change.

Absolutely agreed, for both countries and fora. :D

I think it requires a lot more than that. Problem is, nobody in a mob realises they're in one, unless and until they've stepped out and are able to view from the periphery. Mobs can't be introspective. :)

I was merely trying to be circumspect, as I wish to continue till my tenth anniversary here before making my withdrawal complete, without any further acrimony.

Mobs do serve a useful purpose for those who control them, but only until they can't. I hope you can pick up the parallels in what I have just said not only here on the forum, but also in real-life Pakistan too.

Need I say any more? :D

Well, the first step to take should be the abolishment of all madrasas.
Open state controlled religious schools like the ''imam hatip''(sunni) in my country where government employed imams are trained.
This could be done for all sects and religious minorities if needed.
Unfortunately you dont have a strong enough state(government) to enforce such a drastic change.
Even your Army, the backbone of your country has lost that power,a coup is not possible anymore.
Your blasphemy law is a joke.

These words should be highlighted in gold. May your voice be heard forever.

I cannot believe that I am on PDF, and reading these posts. There is hope, and by that I mean, first and foremost, hope for India.

Really can’t fathom why this post doesn’t have Atleast a half dozen of positive points yet.. Rare these days in PDF where religious sectarianism and hate for anything non Islamic is promoted openly by certain posters and the Moderation seems to have given them leeway of sorts.

Thank you for this

South Asia as a whole is going through this trend irrespective of the religions they follow, Because religion in region is not solely based on faith but on nationality and politics
