In 778, when Charlemagne took control of Barcelona and Pamplona from Emirate of Cordoba, on return to France his forces were ambushed in mountain pass of Pyrenees by Basque forces supported by Emirate of Cordoba. This battle is famously known as Battle of Roncevaux Pass.
