Rafael developed the fifth generation of Spike missiles designed to work in a networked manner. This is one of the first developments of an Israeli defense industry in the context of the IOT. The missiles were purchased for the IDF's "Sheriff" helicopters (Apache).
The new missile is called SPIKE LR II ("Gil-2") and can be launched up to a range of up to 5.5 kilometers (by ground launch), extending the range of about 35% from the previous version of this missile, (Via a wireless communication channel).
Like the rest of the missiles in this missile family, Gil-2 is a multi-mission missile capable of hitting a wide range of targets. Gil-2 weighs only 12.7 kg and is suitable for shooting from all Gil's existing launchers (land, air and sea).
In the accompanying pictures you can also see the launcher based on Rafael's hanging device, which enables the carrying of four missiles from one antenna. A similar suspension is also used by the IDF's fighter jets.
The pictures reflect the operational configuration of the helicopters and therefore it can be concluded that the missiles are already operational in the IDF.
The IDF refused to comment on whether the IDF purchased Spike 5 missiles.
