The white spots in our fingernails that we probably settle with 'oh, it's just a calcium deficiency', have actually nothing to do with calcium deficiency.

According to SciShow, these milk spots are actually formed when the nail bed forms damaged cells after it experiences a knock or a bump. These little white spots usually move up and disappear after a point of time as the nail grows.

However, in some cases, their presence may indicate a fungal nail infection or even feverish illness. and for years my mom forced me to drink 2-3 glasses of milk(that too in addition to compulsory daily dose of 1 glass) when ever she saw one of these marks on my nails.

I still have these white lines, was ok with calcium deficiency but lead poisoning.. damn..

It actually is related to calcium deficiency because it weakens your bones and when your bones are weak a little knock or bump would cause damage to tissues which will cause these white marks.

Optimum calcium levels would definitely reduce these white marks as your bones would be able to withstand normal day knocks on fingers or area around that. But it can still appear in case of hard knocks.

Fingernails are made of Keratin, not calcium. They aren't made of bone.
