It is quite interesting, the ability for Americans to make friends (or at least cooperative partners) out of former enemies.

Of course the victory is for both sides, a willingness to let history be history by Americans would mean nothing without reciprocation from our friends/partners.

The surest way to defeat an enemy is to make them a friend, there can be no greater form of victory... a mutual victory.

A list of some...

Canada

UK

Spain

France

Philippines (Philippine-American war)

Japan

Germany

Italy

Vietnam

India

Mexico

Myanmar (on the first step, though still tenuous)

Despite the two wars with Great Britain (Revolutionary War, War of 1812), we can never really consider Britain as an enemy. Great Britain is literally the Mother of the United States; we inherited our language, our culture, or Christian background, our laws and our democratic ideology from Britain.

Some of us even have some British genetic imprint. I myself am part English. There will always be that historical umbilical cord between the United States and Britain. She has, as witnessed, been our closest and most faithful strategic partner. Mother and Child Duo (albeit, a very Large Child) ;)

After all, there are no permanent enemies or permanent friends, only permanent national interests.

First of all nice thread,

Anon bro, you should make a new thread about US making enemies outta former allies, too.

Dunno, but I THINK it would be very interesting to read ;)
