Thailand - Land of Smiling Protestors - Thai Politics and Culture

Thaksin is corrupt but widely popular with the Thai peasants

Most Thai politicians are corrupt but the difference between Thaksin and the rest is, Thaksin want to do something for his people. Others do not care. Given that if Abhisit and gangs run Thailand for 1000 years, Thailand will be India 2.0.

Before Thaksin came to power, the sick and poor either die or bankrupt. After Thaksin, the poor got free healthcare.

Even Singapore and USA does not have free healthcare. Our government keep ranting that free healthcare will bankrupt the country but Thaksin has shown that Thailand not only does not bankrupt, but emerge much stronger.

Thaksin is the hero of people and good man.

Thaksin is Capitalist and represent all that is big and bold in Thailand which some Thais consider is wrong with the development of Thailand. Even if Thaksin introduced many good things to Thailand , he is basically greedy, corrupt, inherently undemocratic under his façade.

Thaksin is rich does not mean that his policy is market fundamentalism. Instead, he is the most socialist leader Thailand ever had and her ablest prime minister. I do not see how undemocratic Thaksin is compared to his rival. Thakin was voted in as the PM, compared to Abhisit, who got the job due to coup. Abhisit and gang are now trying to usurp the democratically elected Yingluck government replacing it by an unelected body.

Also whether Thaksin is corrupt or not does not matter too much as the Thai prefer to have Thaksin given all his opposition has expose every bit of him. The alternative is much worse.

Abhisit is also a murderer for killings 100 Red Shirts.

During the 1997 economic crisis, the traditional Thai elites especially the policies of Democrats brought disaster to Thailand. Under Thaksin, Thailand recovered miraculously.

If the Thai is to vote again, Thaksin will win hands down. It is the yellow shirt who are undemocratic and corrupt.

Thaksin is a shrewd politician and no socialist leader, his populist policies are meant for his future path to total dictatorship. A plan that did not go well with the Queen and yellow shirt supporters. Yingluck is just his proxy

Thammasat University lecturer Kasian Tejapira said worryingly, political populism and authoritarianism was at the core of the populist policies and if this was not changed, the policies would continue being changed by future governments.

I beg to differ. Thaksin policy that are good to people like universal healthcare is implemented throughout the entire western Europe. You can definitely defined such policy as "populist", but that is the way all developed country except the black sheep like Singapore and USA.

The alternative "non-populist" way is to deprive the people from healthcare. Or even bankrupting people for trying to access education, utilities...etc. Today, even Cuban have higher life expectancy than the "non-populist" USA. And USA healthcare system is despised by a lot of people.

If Thaksin is populist, how about France and Germany?

I cannot see how Thaksin can become a dictator as he does not shown any inclination to do so. He has always call people to vote, while his opponent keep on boycotting, inciting the army. Also if his good policy enable him to get re-elected for many terms, then he deserve it. Abhisit could have do the same thing.

Unfortunately, the Thai people know very well Abhisit is trying to screw them. When I was in Northern Thailand, many people told me how much they love Thaksin. I remember one guy brought me to his house and told me that everything there was given to him by Thaksin.

He did not forget to curse the yellow shirt and the king.

Yingluck is his proxy or not, does not matter. The Thai people want it this way. The Thai clearly love Yingluck. If she go election, she will win. Else the Thai would have voted Yingluck out and shove in Abhisit. The Thai are clever, they knew Abhisit is going to screw them and Thaksin will bring the country forward.

Our PAP government sucks. A lot of us want them go. Anyway, Thaksin got cash out from this deal and that has preserve his influence, prestige in his exile. I support righteousness and I wish Thaksin good luck. Our government are idiots and they try to be talent by gambling our monies. They got duped many times.

Without Thaksin, the PAP government will still squander our wealth and suck us dry.

Back to Thailand. The Democrat and Abhisit faked that they got support from Bangkok middle class, but in fact looking into the election results, Democrats could even be despised in Bangkok. In Bangkok, the governor election see Thaksin group winning 41% vs 48% of Democrats/

Bangkok gubernatorial election, 2013 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, the results from the 2011 general election showed that in the 33 Bangkok constituencies, the Democrat Party won 44.34% of the vote, while the Pheu Thai Party won 40.72%. Pheu Thai even won two seats from the Democrats. Overall, Pheu Thai managed to increase their Bangkok seats by a total of four. The Democrats still had more seats, but lost seven.

This shows that the Bangkok population is evenly split between Pheu Thai and the Democrat Party and this is based on those who have house registrations in Bangkok. Thousands of rural migrant workers who work and reside permanently in Bangkok are registered to vote in their family villages. If they were registered where they actually live and work, Pheu Thai might have achieved an overall majority in Bangkok.

Abhisit is shitt. He do not have support of even the full Bangkok middle class. He brag and brag telling lies that middle class support him. Abhisit is supported only by gangsters and criminals.

Not a Thai, Yuan ??? Abhisit's ancestors are from Yunan , and Thaksin is from Guangdong, half of Thais are of Chinese origin

Ancestor of Abhisit from Fujian came to Vietnam first called Minh Huong people, he went to Thailand from Vietnam around year 1800. His surname is Yuan (), like 袁世凱.

Usurping constitutional amendment that would allow the prime minister to sign foreign treaties without Parliamentary approval is overturned. Regime cries “judicial coup

Tony Cartalucci (ATN) , – The now overturned amendment of article 190 of the Thai Constitution would have allowed the Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to sign foreign treaties without Parliamentary approval – in a dangerous and despotic consolidation of power that was begun under her brother Thaksin Shinawatra. Bangkok’s English newspaper The Nation reported in its article, “Constitutional Court rules against Article 190 amendment bill,”
