ABBOTABAD: Two terrorists who fired nine rockets at the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul on January 25 this year were arrested, Express News reported on Tuesday.
The two terrorists were identified as ‘Farooq’ and ‘Ashraf’. Three suicide jackets, two mortar shells and three Rocket-Propelled Grenades (RPGs) were seized from their possession.
The January 25 attack
The rocket attack had damaged the academy’s outer wall which is just 500 metres from the site of the US Navy SEALs raid that killed Osama bin Laden. DCO Abbottabad Syed Imtiaz Hussain Shah had said that attackers fired nine rockets from a hilltop of village Dheri which overlooks Abbottabad. A rooftop room had also been damaged in the attack.
In the major security breach, the academy’s outer wall and a portion of a mosque and a laundromat located nearby were damaged. Over 700 male and female cadets were undergoing training courses with a larger number of training staff when the attack took place but no one was injured.
According to sources, the rockets were Russian-made and security forces had seized nine launch pads and batteries of motorcycles used for propelling the rockets. The attackers had also dropped large quantities of chili powder to cover their tracks and mislead sniffer dogs, the source had said.

In the month of September 188 Pakistanis lost their lives in 28 terror attacks. This news of terrorists arrest comes as a “breath of fresh air”. We commend the Pakistani security forces on capturing the terrorists and recovering suicide Jackets, arms and ammunition from their possession. These actions are big blows to the terrorist organizations. We hope that in coming days more of these enemies of peace are apprehended so Pakistanis can breathe a sigh of relief from these daily ruthless killings.
