Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf's (PTI) chief whip Shireen Mazari on Tuesday criticised the government's decision to seal the Pak-Afghan border, saying it was not solution in the country's fight against terrorism.

"Terrorism will not be finished by closing the Pakistan-Afghanistan border," Mazari said during a session of the National Assembly.

Pakistan's border crossings with Afghanistan had been sealed in the aftermath of a suicide bombing at the shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh ─ the deadliest in a series of recent attacks in the country.

The military leadership had claimed the attacks were carried out by militants operating from safe havens in Afghanistan.

Mazari asked why Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had alleged a day earlier that India is conducting terrorist activities in Pakistan when Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said during a recent visit to Turkey that Pakistan wants to do business with India.

"If terrorism can be defeated by closing the Pak-Afghan border, then why not close the Wagah border as well?" Mazari asked. "What is our foreign policy and who develops it?" she added.

Pointing to the Army's recently-launched Operation Raddul Fasaad, Mazari also questioned why the policies that had created "fasaad" (discord) in the country had not been done away with.

Adding to Mazari's criticism of Pakistan's foreign policy, PPP MNA Shahida Rehmani, pointing out that India was improving its relations with Arab countries, asked: "where do we stand?"

She added that Pakistan's relations with America also did not seem to be improving.

The MNA said that while the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor was a "good" project, "relating it to all of the country's problems was not a clever appraoch"

In response, Federal Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch said it is unfortunate that Pakistan's relations with Afghanistan have never been cordial.

Baloch claimed the present government had made efforts to improve the relationship, pointing out that Pakistan is currently hosting three million Afghan refugees.

Defending the government's decision to seal the Pak-Afghan border, the minister said there was an important reason for it.

"Evidence of Indian and Afghani agencies assisting terrorism is Pakistan is available," he claimed.

"The purpose of closing the border is to pressure the Afghan government to take action against terrorists."

He said peace in Pakistan is related to peace in Afghanistan and while "we are ready to provide Afghanistan with all the required assistance, how many bodies can we bury?"

Pak-Afghan border reopened for two days

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistani authorities on Tuesday have reopened border with Afghanistan for two days to allow movement of valid visa-holding nationals amidst tensions however, trade activities would remain suspended.

According to press release of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "In order to provide an opportunity to those nationals of Afghanistan who had come to Pakistan on valid visas, and wish to return to their country, the Government of Pakistan has decided to open the border crossings at Torkham and Chaman on 7th and 8th March 2017. The crossing points will also be opened on these two days for those nationals of Pakistan who had gone to Afghanistan on valid visas and wish to return to Pakistan. The decision has been conveyed by Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Mr. Sartaj Aziz to the Afghan Ambassador by telephone. All concerned at the two crossing points have also been informed."

Security authorities concerned on both the sides have been informed about the forthcoming cross-border movement.

Border with Afghanistan was sealed until further order after over five attacks in Lahore, Quetta, Peshawar, Sehwan Sharif and other areas rocked Pakistan last month.

At least 88 persons were martyred in Sehwan Sharif suicide blast in shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar while 14 persons lost their lives in Lahore attack.

Pakistani authorities demanded the Afghan government to hand over 76 wanted terrorists and take action against terror outfits operating from there.

Unprovoked firing from Afghan troops at the border had claimed lives of five Pakistani soldiers. One soldier was targeted in Khyber Agency while four in Mohmand Agency.

Pakistan has lodged protest with Afghanistan over the uncalled for aggression.

Afghan Deputy High Commissioner was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard.

I will tell you F#cking development that swine has achieved, his biggest development is adding extra layers of lipids to abdomen, and gluteal region and his tubbars where the ordinary Pakistan is getting meaker. Fight terrorism you have to f#cking kidding me mate. He wanted to negotiate in 2014 with them just like chawal Imran did. people may have short memories but I don't, It took Karachi airport to start action against TTP and hukumat was falling tooi phar like mian ji always does. My chawal? He's the prime minister of Pakistan...therefore he's our chawal! I'm not going to bother defending him because I don't support him. I just think he's a lot better than chawal Khan! The lesser of two evils so to speak.

My suggestion to you would be to find another "hope" for Pakistan if you want the country to prosper. Because right now all we have are a bunch of chawals fighting for the PM kursi without any regard for the country or its people.

I am not defending it. I dont know why he would give such a statement? Its beyond me and shows his utter frustration and disgust which was not required. He really needs to learn from NS and Zardari in how to keep quiet and not shoot from the hip.

We have to understand that in the entire landscape of politics in Pakistan, besides PTI i dont see who else is there that can be entrusted to take Pakistan forward. Yes IK is not perfect and has his fair share of idiocy that he displays from time to time but look at our options with the likes of NS and next in line his daughter, in Sindh we have that chor Zardari and his gay son, We have ullema in the form of Fazul-ur-Rehman who use to spy on his very own father for money. In KPK we have people like Achakzai and Asfandyar wali who are more Afghans than Afghan themselves and will not stop short than breaking Pakistan into pieces.
What i dont understand is that we are ok with people like NS to rule us for the third time when his previous terms were absolute disaster yet somehow not ok to give a man like IK a chance about whom we know that he is not corrupt, not a liar, does not launder money and most importantly has his stake inside Pakistan just because he called foreign players Patercher. I mean come on. Yes we admit that it should had never been said but really we need to set our priorities straight.
