Terror plot foiled in NW Pakistan

Pakistani security forces have foiled a terror plot in the Hangu District of the country's northwest, seizing an explosive-laden vehicle in the process.
The vehicle was recovered after an exchange of fire with militants in the Doaba region of Hangu on Saturday, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The security forces arrested three militants in the search operation.
According to security officials, the militants intended to target a mostly Shia-populated area in the tribal region of Hangu.
Meanwhile, security forces have cordoned off the area for the bomb disposal squad to diffuse the explosives.
On December 10, at least 20 people, including two women and three police officers, lost their lives in a bomb attack in the Pass Kaly village of the mountainous district. Another 16 were hurt in the incident.
Militants in Pakistan have staged several attacks in major cities across the country as well as smaller areas over the past years.
The Pakistani army has launched several operations in the northwest in a bid to flush out pro-Taliban militants from its tribal areas.
Militants have been blamed for the deaths of thousands of people in the nationwide attacks in recent years.
Pakistan is also plagued with violence stemming from non-UN-sanctioned US aerial strikes as well as attacks by militants on NATO trucks carrying supplies to the US-led forces in the war-ravaged Afghanistan.
Militant attacks, unsanctioned drone strikes and political unrest have claimed the lives of over 4,000 people throughout Pakistan since 2007.
