PTI to back army in anti-militant action
LAHORE: PTI chief Imran Khan has extended support to military operation against terrorists to establish peace and tranquility if the on-going peace dialogue remains inconclusive.
Imran khan said this here on Sunday while talking to media and demanded the talking sides (Taliban and government) to announce ceasefire for smooth, encouraging and successful negotiations. He underscored that, it was understood that if talks failed then military operation would be launched to restore peace as last resort.
PTI chairman stressed that peace should be given a genuine chance. He said the option of launching a military operation was there every time. But, conflicts solutions lie in negotiations and the PTI would back the military operation in order to establish peace subsequent to failure of talks. He said that there should be no militia within the boundaries of Pakistan. And, no group could be given freehand to killing of innocent people in the name of religion, he underscored.
He recommended that no haste required concerning the result of peace talks. He said this while warning that massive collateral damage was expected if the military operation started. He also raised the concerns that militants might disperse in all corners of the country and then might create further trouble in the country.
He said that TTP was an amalgamation of small and big groups.
There were 43 militant groups operating under the umbrella of TTP of which some factions were anti-dialogue. However, he claimed: Major groups of Taliban are supporting dialogue but there are few element s who do not want peace. I believe that North-Waziristan military operation may prove counterproductive adding that some foreign forces, mainly the US are lobbying for military operation in North Waziristan he said.
Imran remarked that history has proved time and again that military operations never resolved the conflicting issues, whether the operations launched in East Pakistan or Balochistan.
He said that Taliban agreement to hold the dialogue within the ambit of the Constitution was encouraging and this showed that TTP also respect Pakistan's constitution. Talking about comments of JUI-F chief concerning the peace talks, Imran said that the persons who abandoned their role for peace, have no credibility anymore as they almost remained part of every government.
