Indian Company Tata Motors Ltd plans to double the revenue from its defence business over the next three years to $600 million, betting on the government's push for more local defence manufacturing, a top company official said on Friday, July 10, 2015.

Indian companies are investing billions to build anything from armoured trucks, to guns and submarines, as they race to win a share of the roughly $100 billion in defence deals New Delhi has said it will ring-fence for domestic firms over the next decade.

Tata Motors, part of Tata Group, generated about $316 million in revenue from defence over the last three years, about 3 percent of the company's total revenues.

Tata said it had won an order from the Indian army, worth about $150 million, for more than 1,200 multi-axle vehicles for loading and unloading ammunition.

The company has a defence order book for about $237 million, and it would compete for 700 light armoured multi-roll vehicles and 100 wheeled armoured personnel carriers that the military has said it wants to procure, Noronha said.

During the latest defense exhibition in New Delhi, TATA Motors has unveiled new armoured vehicle as the LAMV(Light Armoured Multipurpose Vehicle) and the Kestrel, an 8x8 armoured vehicle.

The LAMV is developed indigenously with technical inputs from Supacat of the UK, for vital reconnaissance mobility, protection and firepower. A light patrol vehicle, the LAMV combines an integrated blast and ballistic protection system, including a protected all composite detachable crew pod and V-shaped hull, providing an all-round protection.

The Kestrel is a modular vehicle with interchangeable snap-in modules, leading to easy customization and self-reliance in achieving its roles. The major features of the vehicle include Optimized Survivability, all terrain performance and increased lethality.

private giant firms were doing great till bhutto take them and then bhutto nationalize them and destroyed them
that happenned in india too in 1970s and went till earli 1990s till P V N Rao openned the economy same also happenned in pakistan half a decade later but instead of doing R&D pakistani private industry indulged in quick profits by assemballing cheap 80 cc mopeds and other motor vehicels

sirji its all about long term planning many pakistani industrial houses all the cash and talent to do so but they dint.... can you tell me why ?

Good step by tata. I think tata and L$T going to have great share in defence and they have the potential to become lockheed and boeing of india. But they need to r$d seriously independently . Most of private are doing screwdriving and depend on public institution for tech

Good point. Just because Bhutto was hanged, his many crimes are not talked about. Ruining Pakistani economy and complicating its social harmony ( by anti-Ahmadi act), he is prime responsible for radicalization of Pakistani Society. Zia only took forward the work started by Bhutto.

he was the first worse thing happen then zia . bhutto was the idiot banned many things and make pakistan from secular country to god damn islamic republic and made this bloody constitution where non muslims are low life and then he start making some sects non muslims like ahmidis . after all this BS he destroyed the economy . people say that pakistan was very fine going before nationalization if its countinue it was other south korea of asia but these two bastards zia and bhutto turn us north korea of aisa .and then mushi turn us afghanistan of asia :(:(:(:(

There is a brief period of time for which I worked for the Tata Group, before I opted for higher pay.
I liked one of their core philosophies - "What comes from the people must go back to the people".

i have more then one reason to hate that POS :( that was the time pakistan start went down :cry: i love pakistan but i can not hide my thoughts when i face the truth . we want our pakistan yes the pakistan of jinnah not zia or bhutoo or these bastards's pakistan . i wish i could like in pakistn from 1947 to 1970 and then die better then living now :hitwall:

There must be some companies which survived this like ours survived Indira's nationalization drive
