New Delhi: Government sources have allegedly revealed that some of the attackers involved in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks may have Taliban Link. It's the first time an Afghan link has cropped up.
This revelation highlights a possible Taliban-ISI-Laskhar nexus. It is reported that the Lashkar attackers were trained in an al-Qaeda run camp in Afghanistan.
The information has come at a time when India is reworking its Afghan policy. It's surprising that there was no mention of the Taliban link in India's dossiers to Pakistan.
The source of that information is possibly Lashkar operative David Coleman Headley, one of the plotters of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks who is in the US custody.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh raised the issue of India access to Headley in his meeting with US President Barack Obama in Washington on Saturday.
Headley, who was arrested in Chicago in October last year, has confessed to playing a crucial role in the Mumbai terror attacks. In his plea bargain with the US government, he has offered to be subjected to questioning by foreign investigators.
National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon had earlier met his US counterpart James Jones and discussed modalities for Headley's access. He is needed to unravel the entire 26/11 attacks conspiracy - along with other attacks planned in India.
India is to seek direct access to David Headley under a bilateral agreement signed in 2005.
