Abu Dhabi: The UAE welcomed the announcement by the Afghan government to extend ceasefire with Taliban, the officials Emirates news agency WAM reported.

The announcement was made on Saturday by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

“The UAE supports Ghani’s announcement to extend ceasefire with Taliban as well as his proposal to begin peace talks,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Government said in a statement issued yesterday (Sunday).

The ministry added that the ceasefire with the Taliban is a fundamental step to consolidate security and stability in Afghanistan.

It praised the Afghan president’s initiative, describing it as a brave decision that would pave the way for peace negotiations between the two sides.

“The UAE appreciates the Afghan President’s continuous initiatives for political solutions and dialogue among Afghans to end violence, a right approach that is necessary to reach a comprehensive national reconciliation that can spare the people of Afghanistan violence and terrorism."

On June 7, Afghan Taliban announced a surprise three-day ceasefire over the Muslim Eid holiday in the middle of June, their first offer of its kind, days after the government declared an unconditional ceasefire of its own.

"The ceasefire ends tonight and our operations will begin, God willing. We have no intention to extend the ceasefire," said [Taliban] spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

He made no reference to an announcement by President Ashraf Ghani extending a unilateral ceasefire by the government and urging the Taliban to do the same.

The Taliban prevent their own goals from being realized, without offering the Afghans or the world any real explanation. They claim they will be more interested in a peace process once the Americans leave, but nobody on the moderate side can trust that at all.

The best the Taliban can hope for is autonomy over their traditional tribal areas in a real peace process in which they accept and ignore that they are the militarily weaker side (that's never going to change by the way, these are NOT the 1980s, this is the 21st century and nobody is going to supply the Taliban with the kind of weaponry that can defeat the weaponry used by the western backers of the moderate Afghan government),
or they can get hammered after each 'military success' that they effect against the moderate Afghans.

there is no real reward for endless war.
a God can not claim to be wise and kind by rewarding politics that keep a people in endless futile war.

. .
There goes the truce in the dustbin.

There is nothing Oh no about it. Taliban have honored the cease fire but Indian Backed ISIS TTP and JUA are continuously targeting them with suicide attacks. USA has the control over Indian intervention and it is Afghans Govt choice to stop India from the sabotage. The decision resides with NATO USA and Afghan Govt to ask India to do no more and let there be peace in Afghanistan.

We have all seen how peace in Afghanistan can look if the world follow Pakistan's proposed path of a political solution to the country and Now it depends on Afghans to decide weather the 40% population can allow the rest of 60% population be a part of political system and stop foreign intervention of Countries like India and USA. Taliban have no demand other than exit of foreign intervention and their support to foreign groups like ISIS TTP and JUA.

It is a very sad News that this sabotage has worked to over throw the cease fire and that peace will be lost once again.

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN)As onlookers lauded reports of Taliban fighters and Afghan government security forces shaking hands and embracing during an unprecedented ceasefire to mark Eid, a deadly bombing in eastern Afghanistan marred celebrations Saturday.

The Afghan Taliban called last week for its fighters to observe a three-day truce -- except against foreign forces -- to coincide with a 10-day ceasefire declared by the Afghan government for Eid al-Fitr, the holiday marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Purported Taliban militants and Afghans embrace Saturday in Ghazni during a three-day truce for Eid.
Afghan journalists, students and diplomats have all reported witnessing the unusual scenes of reconciliation via Twitter over the past two days. Photos and videos purported to show handshakes and hugs in many parts of the country.
However, the mood of optimism was overshadowed by a blast Saturday in the eastern Nangarhar province, with both Taliban and civilians among at least 25 people killed and 54 wounded, according to Ataullah Khogyani, Nangarhar provincial spokesman.
The explosion occurred about 5:15 p.m. (8:45 a.m. ET) at a gathering of Taliban and Afghan civilians in the province's Rodat district, Khogyani said. The wounded were taken to hospitals for treatment, he said.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement from Amaq News Agency, the terrorist group's media wing.
"A suicide attack struck a gathering of Afghan forces and Taliban movement in the city of Jalal Abbad in Nangarhar," the statement said.
US Army Lt. Colonel Martin O'Donnell, spokesman for US forces in Afghanistan, had earlier attributed the blast to ISIS-Khorasan, the group's affiliate in the country.
"We offer our deepest condolences to the families of those martyred and all those whose joyous celebration was impacted by this attack on peace, which ISIS-K claimed," O'Donnell said in a statement.
"This violence will not halt the peaceful gatherings in Nangarhar and around the country celebrating a long overdue cessation of hostilities and a chance for lasting peace, or undermine the strength and resolve of the Afghan people and the international commitment to Afghanistan," he added.
Afghan and US forces launched a counteroffensive against the ISIS affiliate in March 2017 with the aim of driving it out of Afghanistan.
Embraces during ceasefire
Afghan diplomat Zardasht Shams on Friday tweeted, "Interesting images from across Afghanistan on the eve of Eid Day #ceasefire Afghan Army & Taliban hugging each other. May this ceasefire sustains forever."

CNN cannot independently verify those images, but a freelance journalist confirmed he saw similar scenes in Logar province on Friday and Saturday.
Abdulhaq Omeri, a correspondent with Afghanistan's TOLO News, tweeted photos of what appeared to be Taliban fighters and security forces posing together.

Kabul city police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai told CNN on Saturday that a number of unarmed Taliban had entered the Afghan capital from other police district areas. They handed over their weapons at the entrance, with their weapons to be given them back when they left the city, he said.
In another rare piece of good news, Afghanistan's cricket team made its Test match debutThursday against India.
Ghani: Chance to move forward
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani tweeted last weekend that he was pleased the Taliban had accepted the ceasefire declaration for Eid.
"This is the first break in 23 years and we ask for your support to utilize the window for moving forward with intra-Afghan peace talks," he said.
US forces in Afghanistan also said they would respect the ceasefire with the Taliban. The truce does not include US counterterrorism efforts against groups such as al Qaeda and ISIS.
Afghan government officials confirmed this week that Pakistan Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah had been killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Saturday that the United States supports a move by the Afghan leader to extend the ceasefire.
"As President Ghani emphasized in his statement to the Afghan people, peace talks by necessity would include a discussion of the role of international actors and forces," Pompeo said in a statement. "The United States is prepared to support, facilitate, and participate in these discussions."
Years of bitter fight
Afghanistan has suffered a recent uptick in violence despite reports in March that suggested some factions of the Taliban had expressed interest in pursuing peace talks with the Afghan government.
Ghani first spoke about the possibility of a ceasefire with the militant Islamist group in February when he announced the Afghan government was willing to recognize the Taliban as a legitimate political party as part of a potential agreement.
"We're ready to restart talks about peace with Pakistan again and forget bitter experiences of the past and start a new chapter," he said.
The Taliban has been waging a bitter fight in Afghanistan, with the ultimate goal of ruling the country and imposing its strict interpretation of Islamic law. The group controlled Afghanistan until its 2001 ouster by the US-led coalition that invaded following the 9/11 attacks.
In recent years, a resurgent Taliban has taken control of significant swaths of the country and terrorized Afghans and foreigners alike. Brazen terrorist attacks have even shaken the resolve of those who live in the heavily secured capital, Kabul, and raised questions over the Afghan government's ability to protect the country.
CNN's Ehsan Popalzai reported from Kabul, and CNN's Laura Smith-Spark wrote from London. CNN's Zahra Ullah and journalist Ali Latif contributed to this report.

This proves that Taliban rank-and-file fighters have a real desire for lasting peace with their moderate brothers.

And that validates attacks on the elements in the leadership of the Taliban who want to keep the conflict going.

I recommend a seperating of chaff and wheat, to kill only those leaders of the Taliban who want to keep the conflict going, but to avoid killing those (potential) leaders who support a real peace process without ridiculous pre-conditions like side-lining the moderate government of Afghanistan.

There is nothing Oh no about it. Taliban have honored the cease fire but Indian Backed ISIS TTP and JUA are continuously targeting them with suicide attacks. RAW supports Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, acknowledges Indian analyst in top daily

Man Pakistan wants a cease fire in Afghanistan we want a political process in Afghanistan we have been saying it for decades now.

Khawaja Asif: Afghanistan needs 'political solution'
Pakistan’s foreign minister Khawaja Asif says the US troop "surge" in Afghanistan "will not make any difference" and that a political solution should be sought.

"They are talking of a surge by 4,000, or 5,000, or 6,000, whatever. That will not make any difference. We propose that there should be a political approach and a political solution to this problem, not a military solution," Mr Asif told Hardtalk.

US Defense Secretary James Mattis recently announced that 3,000 troops would be sent to Afghanistan as the Taliban gain ground and security deteriorates.

World has blamed Pakistan for good Taliban and Bad Taliban but this cease fire has shown the people whom Pakistan calls bad Taliban are bad Taliban the rest are Afghans. You cannot name 60% population as bad and kill them that is called genocide. The path and solution Pakistan is suggesting is the true path to Afghan solution and is a working path.

You can debate any thing and every thing but outcome is visible in this cease fire.

USA and NATO have alienated more than half of the population with bombing and killing and India is spraying salt on the wounds of Afghans to push it own agenda. Expulsion of India from Afghanistan is the only solution. They want war and chaos to breed terrorist to attack Pakistan and for that they need unstable Afghanistan.

. .

Just because some IS fighters are from India, and a single Indian analyst says RAW has ties to Pakistani Taliban does not necessarily mean that the Indian government or intel agency actively support Islamic extremists in either Pakistan or Afghanistan. To have ties can mean all sorts of things besides material support.

What would be the motivation for RAW or the Indians to prevent a peace process in Afghanistan or Pakistan?
They would only alienate and aggravate (make angry) the Pakistani and Afghan governments by doing so.

We have had Dutch Muslims join the fight in Syria under the ISIS banner. They clearly are not supported by our government, as they are detained when they return from Syria.

.
We don't care.

Repatriate Afghans and close the border.

My friend look you want to have a debate to find reality or defend India in it's act. I can give you many more news links of Indian connection and even live evidence. But the most stunning evidence is Pakistan gave Afghanistan a list of 70 member of TTP, JUA and ISIS that were from Pakistan and Pakistan wants to kill them or wants USA or Afghans to kill them we provided that will their location. This clearly states Pakistan is not in favor of ISIS and TTP and JUA. Now you give one link where India has asked Afghanistan to kill or capture any ISIS or TTP or JUA member.

He is not a friend. Stop wasting your time.

Like I said, there is nothing to negotiate or reason here.

Just kick Afghans out and secure the border. Afghanistan is a quagmire and will never recover. ISIS has just started to cause carnage. Taliban were a walk in the park in comparison.

Just make sure ISIS doesn't reach Pakistan because that is what real plan is here.

i don't defend anyone blindly, i'm willing to listen to all well-founded arguments.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan–India_relations

Bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Republic of India have traditionally been strong and friendly. While the Republic of India was the only South Asian country to recognize the Soviet-backed Democratic Republic of Afghanistan in the 1980s, its relations were diminished during the 1990s Afghan civil war and the Taliban government.[1] India aided the overthrow of the Taliban and became the largest regional provider of humanitarian and reconstruction aid to Afghanistan.[2][3] Indians are working in various construction projects, as part of India's rebuilding efforts in Afghanistan. Pakistan alleges the Indian intelligence agency RAW is working in cover to malign Pakistan and train and support insurgents,[4][5][6] a claim rejected strongly by India and the United States,[7][8] the latter historically being a strong ally of Pakistan.

So please do provide more links about the 'Indian connection' as you describe it.

Or you want media statements?

either would be good, both would be even better.

those confessions are particularly interesting, if i can verify their authenticity and relevancy.
