PESHAWAR: The Taliban have released a video, which shows the eight men, who were kidnapped in the South Waziristan tribal area last month, pleading to authorities for their safe release.

The video, released on Tuesday, shows the eight employees of the Gomal Zam Dam project who were kidnapped on August 15.

“We appeal to the Government of Pakistan and Wapda to fulfill the demands of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and arrange for our safe release as soon as possible,” one of the men was shown as saying.

The video also shows the men pleading for the militants’ demands to be met at the earliest, saying that one of their co-workers had been killed by the militants.

The workers were travelling towards Tank from the dam site in South Waziristan when their pick-up vehicle was intercepted by the militants, who abducted the men. The incident took place at Murtaza Goth near Gradawi, which lies 30 kilometres west of Tank.

The workers include an engineer, a sub-engineer, two drivers, a cook, two security personnel and a labourer, according to reports.

LIke the Atlantic shotdown by indian, who was authorized to fly near the boarder without escort...

only Two security personnels... in a very dangerous zone...:hitwall:

I know of this incidence. The engineers will be released. One of the engineer belongs to the local population, if anything untoward happens to him, then you'll see some nice fireworks.

BTW, I have travelled from Tank towards D.I.Khan a gazillion times, and also visited the proposed Gomal Zam site (2004). Everyone is requested to travel with at least 6 full magazines / AK :D

PAF needs to form a rapid response team, and security personnel in remote areas must have radio contact with such a team..
In such situatioms just bomb them from air and all die..
The people who are kidnapoed die anyway...albeit after suffering.

Meri jan, it's a VERY big EMPTY area there. No one can patrol it. Trust me!

thats why ground patrols are ineffective, but air raids and aerial surveillance will be effective

This issue can only be resolved through a good ol' tribal jirga.

only if the kidnappers were from local tribes...
most are paid for criminals who do all this to stop development projects in Pakistan...

Kidnappers are Taliban, there's a good chance they are locals or have found refuge in Waziristan.

Btw..
Do you remember Haji Ayyub Afridi of LandiKotal's Private Army?
Was about 10,000 strong..and benazir had to back off from even trying to arrest him on USA's demand...
The point is..Recruiting militants for money is not difficult in these areas...

By reading the title, I thought Taliban is building a Dam. lol

That's what brought me to this thread as well!

Indeed it isn't.......

Agreed.. However problematic.... How are you going to make them sit together.... Bannu/Tank = Marwats / Mehsuds / Gandapurs... they all hate each others gutts. I have presided over a Jirga under my grandfathers guidance in D.I.Khan and S. Waziristan, some tribes you can control, some you can't. Trust me no way to control Mehsuds / Afridis / Khattaks<non locals!

Gandapurs can be bought and threatened, Marwats will listen to logic, Wazirs can be subdued with land and other goodies.... however, Mehsuds need to be exterminated.... If you know their history as well as I do, you'll understand what I mean... I know all these tribes at the back of my hand... their allegiances, what ticks them and how to smack them where it hurts the most!

That's a very sound analysis and your knowledge of the tribes speaks of your interest in them, however you missed the key language that is understood by all tribes......power. If you project power, every single tribe no matter how troublesome will line up and go head over heels to get on your good side. Such are the dynamics of a tribal society that the powerful commands all the respect and support, here's where the state apparatus comes in, the political admin must be the protective hand over the tribes but still retain a position of complete dominance, that will help keep all the tribes under control. You remember when those 30 boys were kidnapped by the Taliban and Afghan Insurgents from Bajaur, last year? They were called for many Jirgas but they stalled then the FC, a Mommand Lashkar 30,000 strong along with artillery support started moving towards Kunnar, the Afghan Party called a truce and personally delivered the boys to the nearest Pakistani border post.
Power in FATA speaks louder than Pushto......
