Quick international recognition is critical for the Taliban so that the heavy amount held up in the US is released, the government is secured from internal and external threats and to increase trade. Humanitarian aid is also vital for Afghanistan as formerly it was running on US Dollar inflows to run the government. Now the Taliban have to use their own resources to get out of the extremely bad economy.
The fight has now shifted from the battle field to the negotiating tables and board rooms. Changing international public opinion is vital to recognition.
In this regard, addition of world renowned people to the Taliban Foreign Ministry is needed. The persons should have their own influence in the West.
I have a radical suggestion in mind which will be difficult to accept by both sides but will have wide ranging positive results.
The person I have in mind is Fatima Bhutto whose real mother is an Afghan citizen who was separated from Murtaza Bhutto. Ghinwa Bhutto is her father's second wife. Ghinwa Bhutto is one of the few principled politicians of Pakistan. Fatima Bhutto was born in Kabul.
Fatima is an internationally acclaimed Author and Journalist with a following all over the World. She writes articles in top rated Western Magazines and News Papers. She is a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause. She does not believe in hereditary politics.
We have Western Human Rights agencies and NGO's criticizing the Muslim countries on various issues and here we have a Pakistani intellectual who takes the West to task on a daily basis.
She says that she wanted to join the Foreign Service of Pakistan when she was a child.
She has strong reservations against the Taliban and has also written a novel about this issue.
But if she is persuaded to work in an advisory capacity on behalf of the poor people of Afghanistan who are facing a famine and a harsh winter and present their case to the World then meaningful change can be brought about.
