Taliban attack: SP amongst five security personnel killed in Peshawar

By Riaz AhmadPublished: October 15, 2012

PESHAWAR: Five people, including Superintendent of Police Rural Khurshid Khan, were killed while 10 police personnel and FC men were injured when the Taliban attacked two check posts of Mattani police station on the outskirts of Peshawar on Sunday night.

In a surprise attack on the Ghaziabad and Fronteir Road check posts at around 10pm, militants equipped with RPG-7 rockets and heavy machine guns, fired shots at the Mattani police station.

Despite it being pitch dark, police and FC personnel retaliated with gun fire and hand to hand combat, which continued for almost 45 minutes.

Militants had occupied the high ground around the check posts and fired from there.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Fazal-e-Mula said that SP Khurshid had reached the spot after the attack and was leading his men when he was hit by bullets. His gunman was also among the dead.

“SP Khurshid is among the dead along with other men,” said Fazal-e-Mula.
A large contingent of police, led by the SP Khurshid and DSP Fazal-e-Mula, from the Badabher police station had been sent to the area
Militants over ran the Ghaziabad check post building and torched it completely, also killing several Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel at the check post.

The injured included seven FC personnel and three policemen. They were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH).

This was the second such attack in the past 12 hours between police and militants. Earlier in the morning an FC constable was killed by a militant sniper on the Frontier Road in Sheikhan in the jurisdiction of Badabher police station.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Matani Fazal-e-Mula said that dozens of militants had attacked their check posts and they had called for a large police contingent into the area to carry out a search operation for militants, still hiding in the dark.

there is a sticky thread for acts of terrorism...

It does not cover the topic , this is more than terrorism this is ghaddar ba$trds killing every one in their path ... we are at war with them and this is our war

There seems to be an emerging trend of Taliban targeting the security forces instead of civilians...

Militants had occupied the high ground around the check posts and fired from there.
So why was the police post situated on a tactically unsound area, dominated by higher ground? That's where they should have been located. Buy hey, what do I know of Pakistani police tactics? Nix! :pop:

Rest in peace for the dead policemen...................

SP is usually District head of Police in India, if similar level in Pakistan then it is big kill for taliban.

Our condolences go out the families and friends of the Police Superintendent, Khurshid Khan and others killed in this act of terror. Our prayers are with those who are injured for a fast and complete recovery. These terrorists have killed thousands of civilian and security personnel. In these times of horror we stand by the people of Pakistan. Rest assured, together we will overcome the terror and defeat the terrorists.

And sadly they are in delusion of a Taliban return after 2014 in Afghanistan and are blind to see what's coming to knock their doors!

RIP to the soldiers!

Please provide a solid evidence of a Pakistani policy which says that we want the "Return of the Taliban 2.0" in 2014, only then we can judge the case on who's deluded.

R.I.P.....to the soldiers.

Weed out these terrorists as soon as possible. Hurdle for growth for our region.

The enemy of Pakistan have changed their tactics & they have increased their terrorism in Pakistan. First of all PPP’s Zardari goes to US early in his power & signs many blind deals with the US of which even he does not know what he signed & because of that terrorism increases in Pakistan, US is doing whatever they want to do in Pakistan.

All these terrorist attacks carried out in Pakistan are all organized & planned by US, India & her allies. Their only aim is to destabilize Pakistan by any means possible. So all these pre planned attacks which are taking place in Pakistan is a plan to push Pak Army for an operation in NWA. Which in my opinion will Pakistan in tons of problems, nothing more.

Off the topic when we look at Balochistan India along with her new boss US are fully supporting BLA terrorists & other Baloch terrorists in Balochistan province & again to help them achieve their goals PPP & Zardari are making sure that the enemies of Pakistan achieve all their goals & targets.

emerging trend? have you been asleep since 2004?

to attack even 2 FCs or an anti-TTP cleric or politician they willing to blow up entire Mosques or checkpoints or even loya jirgas

the enemies of Pakistani Nation have long sought to create chaos and divisions in the society and to hinder the development and security of Pakistan and since NATO's ill-advised adventure in the neighbour country the enemy has become stronger

i think it's better to just remove trolls and other cancerous tumors from this forum whose full-time job is just to peddle myths and confusion here
