Syria rebels, IS in 'non-aggression' pact near Damascus | GlobalPost

Syrian rebels and jihadists from the Islamic State have agreed a non-aggression pact for the first time in a suburb of the capital Damascus, a monitoring group said on Friday.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the ceasefire deal was agreed between IS and moderate and Islamist rebels in Hajar al-Aswad, south of the capital.

Under the deal, "the two parties will respect a truce until a final solution is found and they promise not to attack each other because they consider the principal enemy to be the Nussayri regime."

Nussayri is a pejorative term for the Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam to which President Bashar al-Assad belongs.

Syria's armed opposition initially welcomed jihadists including Islamic State members in their fight against Assad.

But the group's harsh interpretation of Islam and quest for domination of captured territory sparked a backlash against it that began in January.

A coalition of rebel groups pushed IS out of much of northern Syria, but it has recaptured much of that territory in recent months and has a strong presence in Hajar al-Aswad.

More than 180,000 people have been killed in Syria since the beginning of the uprising against Assad that began in March 2011.

What a BS, FSA & zionist ISIS is the same thing with different names, so JEW USA can say they arm moderate rebels

The only videos of "infightings" are videos where we see nothing, but empty buildings and they say there has been heavy fightings

Great.

Funny how Isis never threatens Israel.

Because they can't. In the same way Syrian rebels/government can't threaten Israel right now. The people who threaten Israel are the people closest to the sunnah of the Prophet.

Hmmm sunni rebels supporting IS.... sometimes I wonder why have we even allied with the despot kingdoms in middleast when iran appears to be the sane one from time to time.
@Akheilos , its actions and sympathetic actions like that make it hard to remove misconceptions about our faith. As they say t actions create perception and perception is reality. Just the other day, the muslim(agakhani) community built a islamic cultural museaum incompassing neo middle eastern architecture to spread awareness about islam but this news today will engulf that effort and the little perception we changed is sadly futile. So basically I feel your pain In reference to the article you posted in senior cafe(your analysis was bang on).

They formed a pact, to cooperate militarily and unite in the struggle against Assad/US/Israel. What's your problem? The FSA is obviously upset that the US which claims to support opposition actually supports Assad and began a coalition to weaken opposition under disguise of 'fighting ISIL'. ISIL did nothing to US, the US began interfering in Iraq.

Are you confused or are you just Shia?

Stop lying tonyourself you little jihadi in training. Its easier for cowards like you to behead innocent Syrian and Iraqi civilians than it is to behead israelis. You and your people are paying for and will continue to pay for your fratricide. The world no longer cares about gaza. Good luck jihadi hazzy

FSA and IS have united against their biggest enemy Assad. Assad is the biggest IS opponent in Syria. America's jew owned media will never broadcast this story. We behave as if we are against IS but we are going to help them by bombing Assad.

I dont think obomba the drone emperor will actually do it. There are too many variables. Too many things that could go wrong. Politicians say one thing but generals that have to use game theory to strategize these things in advance know better. This is at best the usual american brinkmanship. Nothing more. And as usual, I think they are bluffing. Why? Because this is a negative sum game.

I hope you are right. In any case here we are engaging in yet another war of choice. Doesn't seem to matter whether the prez is democrat or republican, they'll always find a way to get us into war.

Against defenseless nations with no allies. The Syrian Army has direct orders to shoot down any plane that violates its airspace and any ship that fires into its airspace as well. This is an act of naked aggression against a UN member country. Syria will have every right to defend itself. Iran would join in and all hell would break loose. And im not even taking into account what Russia and China might do. Its too dangerous to let the USA fascists get away with this. Any country could be next. Id go on but youre getting the picture.
