http://dawn.com/2008/08/25/welcome.htmSRINAGAR, occupied Kashmir Aug 25 (APP): Indian authorities arrested several Kashmiri leaders, including Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Geelani and Yasin Malik, ahead of a pro-independence rally towards Lal Chowk to be staged Monday evening. Meanwhile, troops were deployed on highways leading to Kupwara and Leh as Shabbir Shah, Naeem Khan and Mussarat Alam were to lead processions towards Lal Chowk. Due to the curfew imposed in all ten districts of the occupied Kashmir valley, newspapers could not be published while authorities have already banned television channels. Media reports quoting a spokesman for 'Etlaat' newspaper said the management decided not to bring out Monday’s edition to protest against the highhandedness of Indian security forces. Another spokesman of a daily said for the first time in ten years its staff could not reach office due to restrictions in the region. (First Posted @ 10:00 PST, Updated @ 12:50 PST)
