New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a contempt notice to former Army Chief VK Singh for his remarks questioning the court's decision in his age row.

Recently, in an interview, the general reportedly questioned the Supreme Court's handling of his case against the government in which he demanded that he be accepted as a year younger than what his records show.

The judges today said of his comments, "It scandalises this court and also lowers the authority." General Singh has been asked to file his response by the 23rd of this month.

The general had reportedly said in the interview, "If the court can define the age of a rape accused on the basis of the matriculation certificate, then why has the Supreme Court failed to decide my age despite checking and cross-checking my certificates?

"If the superior judiciary of this country can believe the matriculation certificate, and say a rapist and a murderer is a juvenile. What happens to my certificate which has been checked, rechecked and carbon-dated over a period of time? Why? Why didn't they give a decision?

"Knowing fully well that they were not going to give a decision since people were pressurizing them and asking them not to give it. So, the controversy was created."

General Singh took the government to court in 2010 in a failed attempt to prove he was a year younger than army records showed. He dropped his case after Supreme Court judges indicated he was likely to lose, since he had accepted the government's decision on his birth date thrice.

If the general had won, he would have been eligible for an extra year in office.

@Aeronaut, bro this news has nothing to do with Indian elections

"He dropped his case after Supreme Court judges indicated he was likely to lose, since he had accepted the government's decision on his birth date thrice".

Even supreme court judges along with Govt. looked for middle path but the man VK Singh while in service or even after that didn't think twice to lower the dignity n stature of his post as army general. there was no need to go to court on the issue. all this effects of Fenku company
