Kochi is in Kerala state which is governed by one of the public communist parties. I am surprised that there is no communist-aligned employee union in that company.

These socio-economics-related suicides happen because India is not a leftist welfare state politically and socio-economically. Suicide seems to be accepted as a normal, everyday occurrence for which time should not be spent on reasoning why.

The Indian system neither guarantees housing ( so people take up high-interest loans to buy houses and so have to take up some job even if it is boring like the typical IT job ) nor employment ( at least for the urban population ) nor unemployment money payment. Other than white-collar professionals committing suicide there is the long-time phenomenon of Indian farmers and students committing suicide.
