without any strong air defense/SAMs indeed its good ground attack record in Syria @Austin Powers

and USA adopted this strategy since 90s, so whats new about it @Austin PowersYes and it gets targeting coordinates and designation mainly from Forpost drones that way it frees up a hard point to carry more bomb load instead of a targeting pod.

so what, Russia is 20 year behind from west/USA to adopt this strategy @Austin PowersUAV has long endurance and prop engine don't need much maintenance unlike jet engine. So that's why they mainly use Su-35 as a bomb truck against stationary targets like buildings.

its only for spying/target assessment/ BATTLE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT and not for REAL TIME TARGET ACQUISITION FOR FIGHTER JETS @Austin PowersActually, Russia had recon drones back the 1960s. The US didn't use recon drones until the 1980s.

Russia bought Forpost drones in early 2000s. Predator is only earlier by a couple of years in the late 90s.

Forpost drones do real time target acquisition. By the late 90s they got GPS so real time target location determination transmitted to satellite guided bombs like KAB-500S carried on Su-35.

i have to say decade behind this strategy they have limited capability in early 2000, why don't you admit Russian are way behind in the term of UAV and specially UCAV development @Austin Powers
Not may be its facts, but you don't admit and Su-24MR, specially Mig-25R/RB were retired from Russian air forces in 90s/early 2010 receptively, and USA way way head in term of UCAV developments they entering new era of designing new stealth jet powered UCAV development ssince late 90s/ early 2000, and Russia is just started to test their first turboprop/jet stealth UAV/UCAV recently (2019) @Austin PowersMaybe but now they caught up. Also Russia used recon planes like Su-24MR and MiG-25R/RB which are similar to RF-4. The only good thing recon drones like Forpost brings is GPS which is real time target location determination.

And easy to detect and shot down by air superiority fighter jets long range SAMs, Spy drone has more chances for survival because they have extremely low RCS as compare to this slow giant @Austin PowersRussia uses Il-20M recon plane which has 4 props longer endurance than Reaper. It is more capable than recon drones and also has radar. In Syria they use Il-20M for recon. Forpost drones are also used to complement Il-20M.
