First the basics:

Mumbai (Marathi: मुंबई), formerly Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. With an estimated population of thirteen million, it is the second most populous city in the world. Along with the neighbouring suburbs of Navi Mumbai and Thane, it forms, at nineteen million, the world's fifth most populous metropolitan area. Mumbai lies on the west coast of India and has a deep natural harbour. Mumbai's port handles over half of India's maritime cargo.

Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment center of India, accounting for 25 per cent of industrial output, forty per cent of maritime trade, and seventy per cent of capital transactions to India's economy. Mumbai is one of the world's top ten centers of commerce by global financial flow, home to such important financial institutions as the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies and numerous multinational corporations. The city also houses India's Hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood. Mumbai's business opportunities, as well as its high standard of living, attract migrants from all over India and, in turn, make the city a potpourri of many communities and cultures.

My thread will take you from the south to the north, exploring all the localities in pictures.

Afghan Church: This is in the extreme south of Mumbai (Colaba). It lies just north of the Naval and Army cantonments. The second bus stop on the bus route.

Colaba Mumbai: This is some of the most expensive real estate on planet earth. An apartment here costs tens of crores of rupees.

Brings back some good old memories. I lived in New Delhi (vasant vihar) for few years in my teens (early 80s) and visited Mumbai few times and it always reminded me of Karachi back then. But looking it now, it seems that it has changed a lot since then...

Despite so much modernization in auto industry, why are you guys still stuck with the old Fiats as taxis….is it due to any deep brand affiliation or just can’t be bothered?? Just curious …:undecided:

Luckily,I had the chance to visit many Indian cities and as far as most favourite is concerned....my vote will always go to Delhi..:enjoy:
