Khawaja Saad Rafique finllay giving some instead of putting in his pocket.. Now till end of the time PML-N will keep repeating we give people Wifi in train:)
new slogon for election.

PIA
one way > IBD to Karachi = 11,225PKR(Economy) : 24,340PKR (Business class)
Time duration 2 hours.
I couldn't find the 5500 option.(Is there any? :D)

While PR on this train service offers a 5000 PKR package on Business coaches.Though it takes day.

Since i just bought the ticket for Islo yesterday with Shaheen, its cheapest is 8400 to 12500 range for economy class depending the time of flight.

Not until the later part of the next decade. If the Pakistan railways (PR) can recover from the loses. But if they can achieve it, it sure will be a one game-changing project.Although affordability will still be a major problem for most of the masses. Not to miss in that list ,the training and the rehabilitation/replacement of tracks for provision of this facility.
The PR wanted China to invest in the electric traction department, but they refused it (back in 2014).

Thanks for the update. Indeed the fair has increased recently. I am just shocked and need time to recover after finding out the latest nonsense by PIA. When I was in Pakistan just few months ago, I checked Air tickets on multiple occasion and the fair for Lahore/Islamabad to Karachi was showing as 5500 fixed price for any day of my selection and now after the prices of oil dropped by 50%, PIA has managed to increase fair by many-fold. The latest prices I checked on PIA website states it's 11,000 to 19,000 for single journey and around 30,000 rupees for return journey from Karachi to Lahore.

The funny thing is, I bought a ticket for £396 (60,000 rupees) from London to Bahrain (6 hours) and Bahrain to Lahore (4 hours), back to London via Bahrain and despite taking the pleasure of International flight for 20 hours, Gulf is still making money and here PIA is charging 30,000 for mere domestic flight of 2 hours.

Thanks for the information SURB. Yeah it might be worth for many people in that case, the problem is air-tickets are way too expensive in Pakistan so the railways can loot money from its passengers. I am not sure about the cost of local buses/coaches but 5000 rupees is like a month income for poor people and I wonder if a couple travelling alongside 2 children would ever be able to afford it.

Lol update your this knowledge as well, I haven't seen any one getting less then 2k in Pakistan. That also to kids only, while the non skilled workers get anything from 200-800 daily. Even beggers of Lahore makes from 800-2000 on working day.

then you live in posh area. The average rate the shopkeepers pay to workers in my city is between 4500 to 15,000 rupees depending upon the skill, type of business they are doing, experience etc. In most cases they recruit a worker for 4500 to 5000 rupees per month and slowly raise the salary to mid 7000s. That's the maximum I have seen

Those working on daily basis were earning about 500 rupees per day... So yeah my knowledge is already up to date

Rs 5000 per passenger? :woot: That means this service is meant not for the ordinary Pakistani but the rich and mighty and the feudal landlords only! But then they would rather take a flight to Karachi from Islamabad and save 23 hours!
Air Travel costs 8000-11000
Road travel costs ~4500 with no facilities, no place for taking nap and foremost 28 hours travel time to Islamabad
Train costs 5000 and one can get a very comfortable commuting.
5000 is pretty normal

The activity has picked up. We have the cargo yard just behind our office. It used to look like an abandoned place but now almost 6-8 cargo trains leave for the up country daily.

We don't have 'business' class, but 1st AC/Executive Class is like business class. Here's a pic of the Executive Class on the Shatabdi Express...

Has anyone traveled in train from KHI to Lahore or beyond? (or the other way)? How was the experience? Are the toilets still like...dumping on the tracks?!
I have fond memories of my last trip---way back in 1990/91, from Karachi to 'Pindi, I think. Our destination was QA University but I don't recall there was a train station in ISB then?

I travelled from Karachi to Lahore to Pindi in 2000-2003 extensively. It was lower AC then costing around Rs 1500. It was a good service and from seats to toilet everything was clean back then.
