State to build war museum in Rewari - The Times of India

GURGAON: The Haryana government is planning to construct a first-of-its-kind of war museum to commemorate the 114 soldiers, who sacrificed their lives while defending the country in Rezangla area in Ladakh region, during the China war.

To pay homage to these martyrs, the state celebrates November 18, as Rezangla Diwas every year. Most of these soldiers were natives of Gurgaon, Rewari and Mahendergarh.

The museum is being built on HUDA land in Rewari. The land has been allotted recently and the state government is gearing up to complete construction as soon as possible. The museum will be built on the same lines as Rajputana Rifles museum in Delhi cantonment area.

Most of the soldiers of the Kumaun Regiment (Charlie company), who fought gallantly at Rezangla point, hailed from this region. The government has cleared the proposal and I hope that the museum will be ready before Rezangla Diwas, said captain Ajay Singh Yadav, the finance minister.

Yadav, himself an army officer, single-handedly conceived the project, which costs around Rs 50 lakh.

The city administration is looking to collect funds from Sainik Boards and donations. The state government is also planning to showcase martial history of the region in the museum.

The museum will house details of contribution made by natives and army men during 1857 uprising too.
