LAHORE:

Ambassador of People’s Republic of China to Pakistan Yao Jing has said that China cannot afford to lose Pakistan because stability in its neighborhood is integral to China’s development.

He made these remarks while speaking at an interactive policy dialogue organized by Lahore Center for Peace Research (LCPR) on the topic ‘Pakistan-China Relations in the 21st century’, which was arranged in his honor, said in a press release issued on Saturday.

He said that Pakistan’s importance to China would continue to increase because of the centrality of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route in the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI). Yao added that a stable Pakistan was vital to China’s growth.

The Ambassador reminded the distinguished gathering that China envisages CPEC to be a lead project for connectivity and peace.
He stated the project was not only for the benefit of Pakistan and China as “ownership of CPEC finally belongs to the whole world”.

He emphasized that China’s relations with Pakistan were not based on transient interests but have remained unconditional. He also noted that China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a huge regional agenda with mutual interests rooted in China’s and Pakistan’s common vision for a better future and prosperity of the region.

“Rooted within BRI is China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) initiative that harbors economic prosperity for greater benefit of the entire region,” he remarked.

hopefully china's ambitions are to make pakistan a strong ally rather than a satellite state though i have little hope that pakistanis will protect our sovereignty from such a "brotherly" country

i agree that political relationships can change and wouldn't be surprised if china became our enemy in the future and america became our ally, but there are no friends or brothers in politics

China may become a foe but the US will never become a friend...unless of course it undergoes regime(system) change...but that ain't gonna happen...

they probably won't to be honest but nothing is impossible. the US and japan were sworn enemies but now they are very close allies

Sensible analysis, although I really don't see the US and China ever entering into armed conflict.

so you want US to nuke Pakistan then....?

Pakistan can get lot of benefits if only we can elect and get sincere, smart and courageous leaders, diplomacy is not only yes or no, or simply the words.

Why not?? It was the same US in 1980 as it is in 2018. What has been changed between the times for which US can not be friends...To become a friend, either you have to culturally same or your interest should align...And in both the cases, culturally neither US is same with Pakistan nor China. So it is all about the alignment of interest of China or US that matters to become friend or enemy of Pakistan...Now, being a powerful nation, Pakistan can not expect US or China to change themselves rather It is up to Pakistan to align with China's scheme of things in order to continue with their friendship with China for long run.

agreed. almost certainly won't happen while the earth's natural resources are abundant and bilateral trade remains high. war between proxy states is far more likely and what is interesting to note is the potential emergence of new satellite states which would function as puppet states in any (relatively speaking) short-term conflict between the US and china. while we don't know china's true ambitions for the one-belt, one-road initiative, we can say that it will significantly increase china's influence in the region, especially in weaker states like bangladesh and myanmar and arguably pakistan. these states would fight potential US proxies like afghanistan and japan

i'm not saying what i do or do not want nor am i saying the current situation between pakistan and the US is the same as it was between japan and the US in the past. I'm saying that global affairs can change drastically over time.

Pakistan security institutions should crack down hard on all the agitators, regardless of the color of their turban.

They are close only because of Japanese submission to US. Pakistan can submit to US and becomes the best of friends too, this is how US friendship is acquired
