Remind me again why the SSG dressed like this in this op? I can understand doing so when behind enemy lines or operating under cover but what was the point in doing so in their own nation before a full out overt assualt??

No sir, I am just trying to understand the reasoning behind the SSG units wearing the shalwar kameez in an assualt operation like this. What utility was ther ein wearing this over,say, their regular camo uniforms? Its not like (with their kitted out M-4s) they were going to blend in with the terrorists.

While I am not exactly sure why he is in Shalwar Qamiz, but my take is that the operator was probably conducting recce in civvies at the location prior to the start of the operation. He got his kit on and got in the action wearing the same.

He is not part of the ATT that eventually went in. Those operators dress in black dungarees for camouflage at night time which is when the operation started. Most of the operations are done with layers of cordon. You have the police/rangers at the outer cordon, since this happened in ISB, troops from 111 Bde on the inner cordon. Then you have troops from SSG right outside the location and then eventually the members of the ATT who actually went in and conducted the operation against the occupants.
