Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai.

Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has claimed that he had rejected the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize in the past. The spiritual guru also said that he does not approve of the award given to Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai as "she had done nothing to deserve it".

During a recent press interaction, when a reporter asked Sri Sri if it was wrong to give the Nobel Peace Prize to Malala, he replied in the affirmative, saying she had not done any such work to be honoured with the prize.

Deccan Chronicle quoted Sri Sri as saying that he was offered the Nobel Peace Prize but he rejected it. He said, "I only believe in working and not in being honoured for my work."

He further said, "We should always honour only those who deserve it and I am totally against honouring Malala Yousafzai with the prize and it is of no use."

Sri Sri made the remarks during a visit to drought-hit Latur in Maharashtra.

The Art of Living founder was conferred Padma Vibhushan by the Indian government earlier in 2016.

jamahir's comment : sri sri is right... when a war-criminal and genocider like obama, traitors to the ussr ( like lech walesa ), other nato agents ( like the ikhwaani, tawakkul karman ), can be given the nobel peace prize, idiots like sri sri who can gather a few million more idiots in india and abroad of course deserve the nobel for peace.

Never heard of this man before but he is spot on about malala drama. Even thou he should have known better that these "peace awards" are highly controversial and are more politics driven rather than merit. I would add Sharmeen to the list of undeserving people of so-called prestigious awards, the westerners want to create these two puppet ladies as symbols to demonise Pakistan. Not saying that crimes against women don't exist but there are also millions of other Pakistani women who live happily.

I'd like to see video footage of him actually saying that.

So true!! Could not agree more.

There are a lot of other people that even i can think of who deserve the prize more then her.

As this guru says "She had done nothing to deserve it"

are you being satirical or are you actually in agreement with him??

yes, the western governments want to create a puppet out of malala but surely you can see that she won't be that... what malala desires is socialism as the answer to the problem of south asia, totally opposite to what usa government desires... please read[1] :
Now that Malala Yousafzai has won her hard-earned and well-deserved Nobel Peace Prize, she and her amazing, tragic story is back in the spotlight. Per usual, nevertheless, the corporate media has taken this positive development and exploited it, in the service of US imperialism.
While most people who win the Nobel “Peace” Prize do so, as Michael Parenti points out, for war-mongering and crimes against humanity (for a prime example, consider that none other than Henry Kissinger boasts one, along with of course Obomba himself), Malala actually deserves hers. This makes the exploitation even more despicable and grotesque.
In March 2013, Malala sent a message to the 32nd congress of Pakistani Marxists (the biggest of such meetings in the country’s history). Her statement read:

First of all I’d like to thank The Struggle and the IMT [International Marxist Tendency] for giving me a chance to speak last year at their Summer Marxist School in Swat and also for introducing me to Marxism and Socialism. I just want to say that in terms of education, as well as other problems in Pakistan, it is high time that we did something to tackle them ourselves. It’s important to take the initiative. We cannot wait around for any one else to come and do it. Why are we waiting for someone else to come and fix things? Why aren’t we doing it ourselves?

I would like to send my heartfelt greetings to the congress. I am convinced Socialism is the only answer and I urge all comrades to take this struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation.
This is the Malala the Western corporate media doesn’t like to quote. This is the Malala whose politics do not fit neatly into the US’ neocolonialist, cookie-cutter frame of presentation. This is the Malala who recognizes that true liberation will take more than just education, that it will take the establishment of not just bourgeois political “democracy,” but of economic democracy, of socialism.
Malala does not hide her socialist sympathies. “Socialism is the only answer and I urge all comrades to take this struggle to a victorious conclusion. Only this will free us from the chains of bigotry and exploitation,” she counsels.

When the courageous activist speaks of the importance of education and nonviolence, the West shouts her words loudly from the media mountaintops. When that same activist criticizes predator drones and, that most sacrosanct entity of all, capitalism, the silence is deafening.

malala is the kind of peope the subcontinent needs to get itself freed of the pre-1947 capitalist and reactionary era it is still stuck in.

Not saying that crimes against women don't exist but there are also millions of other Pakistani women who live happily.

really??

and your washing away of existing and continuing oppressions and injustices under the carpet called "millions are happy" is the same as the nationalist indians washing away the deluge of oppressions in india.

besides, a single injustice should not be ignored.

do you want to be in that wrong category?? :)

I'd like to see video footage of him actually saying that.

why don't you enquire with 'cnn news18' right now??

I think the nobel peace prize is a joke tbh, I don't care for Malala either, though I'm sure she's a great kid etc

no follower of Sri Sri either but I doubt he would say something like "I am totally against honouring Malala Yousafzai with the prize"

No sir i am not being Sarcastic or Satirical.
I totally stand by what i said, i agree with what the guru said here. What is true is true, no matter who says it and whom it is against.

To be honest, i think most of Pakistani members here will also agree with this. :)

i agree it's a joke... any "peace" prize that has been been to capitalist criminals, traitors to socialism and not revoked after its recipients have become known as genociders and war-criminals, that prize must be rejected.

I don't care for Malala either, though I'm sure she's a great kid etc

anyone who calls for socialism as the solution to the problems of south asia must be respected.

no follower of Sri Sri either but I doubt he would say something like "I am totally against honouring Malala Yousafzai with the prize"

like i said earlier, you can enquire with the news agency.

One need to admire what malala has done..... Especially considering her age and the environment she lived....... Who are we to judge who deserves it, I am sure there would be a panel who decided whom to give whom not to...... Sri Sri can concentrate on pranayama, basthrika and sudarsanakriya ( by the way i loved the sudarsanakriya) and his social work.....

i don't understand why... just below my earlier reply to you i wrote to djinn about what western establishment media and its followers are not writing about malala.

in my own political ambitions for the next five years or so i hope to be working with malala and those like her.
