COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: A Sri Lankan military plane crashed near the capital Colombo on Friday killing at least two people, residents and police said.
The Antonov transport aircraft came down and burst into flames in the suburb of Athurugiriya in bad weather, residents said.
They said at least two people were seen inside the wreckage of the aircraft while police spokesman Ajith Rohana said they were sending rescue workers to the area.
Police said they believed up to four people may have been on board the plane when it crashed.
It was not known if anyone on the ground had been killed or injured although the plane was not thought to have crashed in a built-up area.
