Sri Lanka to shut some embassies in Europe

SL has a very smart and patriotic leadership at the moment. Mr.Rjapakse clearly put SL interest first it seems and thus managed
to end the 3 decade long civil war so efficiently. The fact that SL is pissing off her next door neighbor and the hypocrite US
means that SL is on the right path and will most likely become the next asian miracle. BD has a lot to learn from SL otherwise
we will be left behind.

Rajpakse decimated LTTE so his people made him Hero. What do you expect from Hasina ? whom to decimate ?

BTW do you heard of recent violent protests in Srilanka over inflation? .. obviously NO

If only diplomatic thinkers were kids from high school.....

We don't really give a damn whether SL shuts embassies in Europe or even stops trading with Europeans. This is forum and we are commenting based on each ones analysis of the situation. Shutting embassies in Europe would be the last thing you'd want. SL is reasonably sound in terms of its national (both socio-economic and political) structure compared to you lot. They can afford it.

There is no truth in shutting Sri Lankan embassies in Europe

The Sri Lankan government reiterated that there is no truth in shutting down Sri Lankan embassies in Europe.

Spokesperson of the Sri Lankan government speaking to our news team stated that such a decision was never taken.

However the Sri Lankan government is ready to merge Sri Lankan embassies in order to broaden the Foreign Service.

There are only 3 Sri Lankan embassies in the African continent and 2 embassies in Latin countries.

Therefore the spokesperson stated that the government’s intention is to establish more Sri Lankan embassies in other countries.

Don't point Hasina to him mate. According to him and his type, she's the root cause of all evil because she doesn't "sever ties with Indian agents and take Bangladesh into Pakistan's and China's arms completely". :cheesy:

Jamaatis think that there's a world of roses in the arms of the Dragon.

Sri Lanka Inflation Slows to Lowest Level in More Than Two Years

Sri Lankan inflation slowed in January to a 26-month low, giving the central bank scope to shield economic growth by leaving interest rates unchanged.

Consumer prices in the capital, Colombo, increased 3.8 percent from a year earlier after gaining 4.9 percent in December, the Department of Census and Statistics said on its website today. The median of seven estimates in a Bloomberg News survey was for a 4.7 percent advance.

Sri Lanka has left interest rates unchanged since the beginning of February 2011 to aid domestic spending and devalued its currency in November to boost exports. Demand for credit has curbed scope to lower borrowing costs, central bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal signaled today, contrasting with neighbors from Indonesia to China that have eased monetary policy in recent months as Europe’s debt crisis hurts the global economy.

“We don’t have room like the rest of the region to ease monetary policy as there’s already demand pressure with credit growth still strong,” Sanjeewa Fernando, an analyst at CT Smith Stockbrokers Pvt. in Colombo, said before the report. “Keeping rates on hold is the best option for inflation and growth.”

The $50 billion economy can achieve 8 percent growth in 2012, Cabraal said today. Sri Lanka’s 3 percent rupee depreciation was a one-off move, he also said.

Expansion has rebounded since the end of a 26-year civil war in May 2009, boosted by the development of roads and ports, tourism, foreign investment and consumer demand.

Inflation will probably remain around the “mid-single digit” level in 2012, the central bank said this month. The next monetary policy announcement is scheduled for Feb. 9.
