A night market on the lines of 'China Town' now operating in Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong is to be set up in Hambantota on the initiative of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.

Once it is set up, the market will be open to the public from 9am to 4am the following day on a daily basis, Rajapaksa said.

He said 1,000 local and foreign traders will be invited to put up shop at the market to sell their products and wares.

A large number of customers including employees attached to the Mattala Airport, Hambantota Port, proposed IT park, residents and visitors to the region are expected to patronise the facility, he added.

Night markets are awesome. :woot:

I go there for the atmosphere usually, rather than to buy anything specific. Though I usually end up buying a few minor things anyway.

Temple Street in Hong Kong is famous for the night market.

Ah, that's more like it. Chinese people, away from motherland, can not survived well without Chinatowns. There we meet and gossip with our compatriots about nostalgia and news tidbits from home over breakfast of dim sums and bring home weekly supplies of Chinese groceries. There also where we have our happy events like birthday and weddings and sad events like funerals.
