SRI LANKA TO BUILD 1000 MW NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

:cheesy:

Iran? Have you gone cuckoo?

You do know that your nation is signatory to the NPT right? You can get direct support from USA, Russia, China, France, Japan, Canada, anyone. This is not some clandestine operation in which you have to steal tech or something.

They've signed the NPT

Knowing the quick Chinese, they have already grasped on the opportunity. I would be VERY surprised if the U.S. manages to ''wrestle'' the plan out of Chinese hands.

Given the current political developments between Sri Lanka and U.S. Govt, I don't see the U.S. willing to provide nuclear tech (those pesky Congressmen seem to politicise even civilian nuke deals).

Chinese dont carry that political baggage with them; from a purely Chinese perspective, they want to 'fortify' their positions globally

Pakistan is working with Chinese on civilian nuclear deal for power generation. I wish best of luck to Sri Lankans for a similar deal.

Sri Lanka is a responsible country.

I guess, we could built a wind energy plant in Sri Lanka for them.

.
We are already building a 1,000MW Sampur Coal Power Plant near Trincomalee and also the Anuradhapura High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) under-sea cable link to India are to be concluded by end October.

A 1 GW nuclear plant is a big project. Very few countries actually have a single reactor of ratings > 1GW.

I believe this is the first nuclear reactor for Sri Lanka, then they must start with smaller power nuclear plants, they should then learn on how to run them at maximum efficiency and then think about installing a 1GW nuclear plant.

Otherwise, its just a waste of money and could end up in a disaster.

hmmmm.......what would the Lankans say in place of Durka Durka, Mohammad! Jihad!

:welcome:

Sri Lanka is to have its first nuclear power plant within the next 20 years to generate cheap electricity to draw large investments and boost its post-war economy, a top government official said on Monday.

"We have received government clearance to set up a nuclear power plant of 1,000 MW," M.M.C. Ferdinando, the secretary of the Ministry of Power and Energy told an investor forum in Colombo.

Ferdinando said the government would begin feasibility studies soon for nuclear power in addition to coal, and hoped to get safety approval from the World Atomic Energy Authority.

Though its a good news... i can indirectly see CHINA equipping a peaceful country with a nuclear bomb... Instead of this CHINA should have helped them with renewable source of energy... which will show CHINA has a development partner..

Since they have signed NPT... i appreciate CHINA's effort.. if they back from NPT.. CHINA should get back its equipment and raw materials immediately.. Peace in South Asia China shouldnt talk but should implement

What a TROLL !!!

You really dont know the difference between nuclear weapon and Nuclear Power plant for civil use..........

We have China, 1000 MW Nuclear Power Plant always ready for us

Buying a nuclear power plant and make it to run at its maximum efficiency are two different things.

To buy, you just need money, but to make them run at their maximum efficiency needs years and years of experience.

Best wishes Sri Lanka... Nuclear energy is cleaner, safer and dependable.

You must also try in greener ones like wind power, which I believe you have in plenty.

BENNY our reactors are 2nd-3rd gen , the Chinese one is a huge a$$ 4rth gen behemoth.

Now that we have an NPT exemption, NPCIL should be able to acquire new tech tech by collaborating with GE, but it'll be quite some time before we can make our own 4rth gen reactors (for export) :frown:

However, the 500MW FBR (thorium) will be operational by 2011, we could become the first nation to export thorium based reactors :D

im also a huge supporter of wind technology; Japanese have a good edge in this sector.

Chinese are also designing solar power units; for the entire national grid, civvy nuke tech is a good move --and quite frankly, nobody should take the Goddam IAEA seriously; i tend to look down on them as inferior organization, and so should you.
